We are SO excited for our sweet patient to finish her first round of braces! 🥳💙

This sweet girl came to us with:
• Severe upper crowding preventing her permanent incisors from erupting
• Moderate–severe lower crowding with permanent teeth developing in unfavorable positions
• Developing teeth competing for space, with concern for impaction and root damage

Our Phase 1 goal: create enough space for her permanent teeth to erupt naturally within the limits of healthy bone and gum support, while beginning to align the permanent front teeth.

Our treatment! 👏🏼
🦷 Lower braces → gentle alignment, conservative space creation, and intentional lateral incisor root positioning to help protect from canine eruption
↔️ Upper expansion → skeletal width + space for permanent teeth to erupt.
🦷 Upper braces → redistributed that space throughout the arch as the permanent incisors erupted. We intentionally maintained the lateral root position while the canines descend, with final lateral alignment planned for Phase 2.

And then… we stopped. 🙌🏼

Once our Phase 1 goals were met, we removed the appliances and let her grow, lose her remaining baby teeth, and allow her permanent teeth to continue erupting. We want our patients in appliances for as little time as necessary—not feel like they’re in treatment forever!

For now, she’ll wear her upper and lower retainers nightly. Phase 2 will focus on aligning the permanent teeth and completely correcting the bite. 😁

We could not be more proud of this girl! She brings so much energy and laughter to our office and has the sweetest heart. 🥰

And to make the end of Phase 1 even sweeter, she made Dr. Z the most thoughtful bracelet. 🥹 Safe to say, Dr. Z will be rocking this gift for a LONG time! 💙

✨ Surgical Orthodontics: More Than Just a Straight Smile ✨

This incredible patient has officially completed her surgical orthodontic journey, and we could not be more proud! 🦷✨

Here’s a simplified look at what went into her treatment:

1️⃣ ALIGN
We began by leveling and aligning the upper and lower arches using clear braces for a more discreet treatment approach. This phase established the proper orthodontic foundation for surgery.

2️⃣ COORDINATE
Once the arches were properly aligned and coordinated, we worked closely with the incredibly talented Dr. Squier to plan the surgical phase of treatment. Surgical orthodontics is truly a team effort between the orthodontist, surgeon, and patient!

3️⃣ SURGERY
Orthognathic surgery allowed the jaws to be repositioned in three dimensions to address the underlying skeletal discrepancy—not simply camouflage it with orthodontic tooth movement.

The goal? A better bite, improved function, airway considerations, and facial balance.

And an important part of surgical planning is considering how the movement of the jaws will affect the overall facial proportions and harmony. She was absolutely beautiful before surgery—we were never trying to change who she was. Our goal was simply to thoughtfully consider facial balance while correcting the underlying skeletal and functional concerns.

4️⃣ FINISH ✨
Following surgery, we used orthodontics to finalize the bite, refine the tooth positions, and bring everything together.

The result is so much more than beautifully aligned teeth. 💙

✔️ Functional bite improvement
✔️ Skeletal correction
✔️ Airway improvement
✔️ Consideration of facial balance
✔️ A stable, coordinated orthodontic result

Cases like this are a great reminder that orthodontics isn’t always just about straightening teeth. Sometimes, the most meaningful changes happen when we address the relationship between the teeth, jaws, airway, and face as a whole.

We are incredibly proud of this patient and so grateful to have collaborated with Dr. Squier throughout her treatment!

We are so grateful for her service, her sacrifice, and the time she spent away from her family, friends, and our Blue Lake family. We are incredibly proud of her and we were so happy to have our full team together again to celebrate her return.
