An over-the-counter supplement could be a better treatment for gum disease than antibiotics. Researchers in Brazil found that combining Omega-3 supplements and low-dose aspirin was just as effective at treating periodontitis as antibiotics.

Omega-3 and low-dose aspirin matched the effectiveness of antibiotics in a year-long study of patients with severe gum disease, with both approaches helping about 58% reach the treatment goal. Dental crowns while you wait? Researchers at the University of Texas at Dallas are working on a method to 3D-print dental crowns in less than 30 minutes.

Researchers have found a way to slash the processing time for 3D-printed zirconia crowns from as much as 100 hours to under 30 minutes. The advance could eventually let dentists print strong, customized permanent crowns for patients within a single appointment.
