If you frequently reach for a piece of gum after a meal, you may be surprised to learn that you might actually be helping your teeth. Let's chew on this: while sugary gum is a definite no-no, sugar-free gum can have some perks. It stimulates saliva production, which helps neutralize acids and wash away food particles. It can also help prevent cavities by removing food particles from the surfaces of your teeth. Look for gums with xylitol for added cavity-fighting power. 💪

Thinking about getting your tongue pierced? It might look cool, but it can come with risks to your oral health. Piercings in the mouth can lead to chipped teeth, gum recession, and even infections if not properly cared for. The constant contact between jewelry and your teeth or gums can cause damage over time, and swelling or irritation isn’t uncommon. If you already have a piercing, regular dental visits to your dentist and extra attention to oral hygiene are key to keeping your smile healthy. Have questions? ➡ https://rwl.io/3QFlx1N

This question seems to bubble up a lot.
Seltzer isn't necessarily bad for your teeth, but it’s also not as harmless as plain water. The carbonation makes it slightly acidic, which can slowly weaken enamel if you sip it throughout the day.

That doesn’t mean you need to stop drinking it. It just means a few simple habits can help protect your smile. Try enjoying seltzer with meals instead of continuously sipping, use a straw when you can, and follow it with plain water to help neutralize the acidity. It’s also best to wait about 20–30 minutes before brushing, since enamel can be softer right after exposure to acids.

When you have a cavity, we will usually follow these general steps to restore your tooth:
Our team will apply a local anesthetic to numb the area around the affected tooth, ensuring the procedure is comfortable. We carefully remove decayed portions of the tooth to prevent further damage. Once the decay is removed, we will clean the cavity to ensure no debris or bacteria remains, which could lead to further problems. Then, we will fill the cleaned cavity and shape the filling to restore your tooth’s natural contour and ensure proper bite alignment. If you suspect you have a cavity, make an appointment at Creekside Dental Jordan Winger, DDS, PLLC: 360-695-1515
