Dr. Jacob Atkinson among Vale High Homecoming honorees

VALE — Dr. Jacob Atkinson, a Vale dentist and longtime supporter of Vale High School, was recognized as one of the school's Homecoming community honorees this fall.

Two of his sons, David and Bruce Atkinson, introduced him.

"Dr. Atkinson cares deeply about dental health and the people he serves, but his impact reaches far beyond the walls of his dental office," the tribute began.

For years, Atkinson has provided Vale High students and staff with Viking T-shirts for Homecoming. The tribute described the shirts as much more than T-shirts: they are worn with pride, create a sense of belonging and remind students they are part of a Viking family.

His dental office also sponsors a Homecoming princess each year, making sure that student feels celebrated, valued, seen and heard.

"That kind of support matters," the tribute said. "It tells our young people that their community believes in them and is proud to stand behind them."

Speaking as one of Atkinson's six children, the presenter said their father has always made time for each of them, gives sponsorships to clubs and sports, and hosts an annual customer appreciation party to thank the people who have helped him succeed.

"My dad reminds all of us how much he loves us regularly," the tribute said, before asking the crowd to stand and recognize "a man who celebrated community daily."
