Optima Dental Group

Optima Dental Group odgmo.com Our expertise includes pediatrics, dental implants, cosmetic dentistry as well as all of your general dentistry needs.

Most dentistry operates via a disease/repair model of care. You have a problem and the dentist fixes it, only to return at your next visit and have more problems. “Health” may be on the practice letterhead, but it’s not in the philosophy of care. At Optima Dental Group, we approach things a little differently — we include you in the conversation and the planning of your care. We address short-ter

m concerns while building a foundation of health that can last a lifetime. Stop wasting money on treatments such as crowns and bridges if your gum health isn’t stable or you’re battling decay. If you want to get off the hamster wheel of traditional dentistry then Optima Dental Group is the right place for you.

Attention Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physicians Assistants, Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, and health care professionals --

Join me on October 19, at 6 PM in Union MO, for a short evening of learning and sharing. 6-6:20 social time, and then 6:20-7:20 a dialogue about personalized medicine from a dental perspective vs the traditional problem based care. (yes, there will be food and w**e.) We will discuss what can be visualized and diagnosed from modern imaging that is less expensive, less radiation, less intrusive, and more easily viewed than hospital scans; identifying mold, fungus and degenerative changes visible to improve your treatment plans or diagnosis, nutrition and finally AI in healthcare. I will be giving you actions and workflows you can use that week in your own practice. Today it has never been easier to deliver personalized medical approach to every patient you work with -- and I am excited to collaborate with you, learn from you, and share what modern dentistry has to offer.

At Optima Dental Group, we are helping you have the information you need to stop generational health issues and have the freedom to be healthy and long lived.

Did you know the bacteria in your mouth can travel through your family? Saliva is more powerful than most people realize. Everyday moments — sharing a drink, tasting a child’s food, kissing, using the same utensils — can pass oral bacteria from one person to another. That matters because some of those bacteria are linked to:
Cavities
Gum disease
Ongoing inflammation in the mouth
And they have effects that reach beyond the mouth!

Families often share similar oral bacteria patterns. If one person has high levels of harmful bacteria, others in the household can pick them up too — especially children. The good news: this is something we can actually do something about.
Treat active gum disease and decay instead of waiting
Pay attention to dry mouth, bleeding gums, and bad breath — they’re clues, not just annoyances. Get tested at your dentist! They can treat these conditions.

A healthier mouth in one person can help protect the whole family. If you’ve been wondering why cavities or gum problems seem to “run in the family,” it may not just be genetics. It may also be what’s being shared. Questions? We’re happy to talk about it.

Your teenage daughter's jaw pain might not be "just growing pains." 😟

TMJ or Condylar resorption is a progressive breakdown of the jaw joint that shows up disproportionately in adolescent girls — and it's often missed because everyone's looking at the teeth, and the bite and not the joint.

What can trigger it:
🦴 Estrogen/hormonal imbalances — including from birth control
🥗 Not enough protein — bone, cartilage, and healing all depend on it
🌾 Undiagnosed food sensitivities or allergies (dairy, gluten, and soy are common culprits) driving chronic inflammation
😴 Poor sleep and chronic stress, which keep the body in an inflammatory state
😟Unstable bite after orthodontics or growth spurts.

Signs to watch for:
✔️ Jaw pain or tenderness
✔️ Headaches or earaches
✔️ Neck pain
✔️ A bite that suddenly feels "off" or uneven
✔️ Sore or sensitive teeth
✔️ Clicking, popping, or locking of the jaw

Here's the part most people miss: the bite is almost always involved, as it changes, increasing forces on the jaw joint in an unhealthy way — but it's not always the primary cause. Chasing the bite alone can miss the hormonal, nutritional, or inflammatory driver underneath it, and the resorption keeps progressing.

The earlier this is caught, the more we can do. Left alone, it can change jaw position, facial balance, and airway function long-term.

If your teen has any of these symptoms, don't wait it out — let's take a look. 💜
