Union Family Dental is owned and operated by the non-profit organization South County Health District. SCHD started the Union Family Dental Clinic in 2009.

Our mission is to provide affordable dental services to all members of our community.

We started work on funding in the spring of 2024! Senator Merkley sponsored SCHD for a Congressional Appropriations grant in 2024. We were accepted through the first round. Then the Biden administration changed its focus from healthcare to housing and several clinics were denied. In 2025 grants were cancelled by the Trump administration. Brian McDowell, a great supporter of our district, got us hooked up with Business Oregon so we could borrow the money. After 18 months the loan is processed and we got our acceptance letter last week! We will be sending out bid notices as soon as all the paperwork is signed so we can hire a contractor. By next summer our patients should have a shiny new clinic with lots or room and more providers to help us cut wait times.

Just so you know, the government has pretty much backed away from providing grant money for new hospitals, clinic buildings and capital projects. The Rural Health experts predict that clinics and hospitals should expect to step up their financial game so they can use borrowing and community support to keep their doors open. If our incredible District Manager, Adina Ferguson, hadn't carefully managed our finances starting in 2020 and saved every penny possible, we could not have qualified for a loan large enough to turn a building into a clinic.

We are going to need support and help from the community to get this done. Not just with donations, but with people who want to help us get this project done. It takes a community to build a new clinic. Go to our website for more information. www.southcountyhd.com
