Today is Dental Drill Appreciation Day! Dental Drill Appreciation Day is celebrated on January 26th to commemorate the invention of the electric dental drill by American Dentist George Green in 1875. As a result of his invention, dentists began to carry out procedures in less time and by subjecting their patients to less distress than in earlier times. His design also minimized damage to the surrounding teeth and gums when carrying out any dental procedure. Even today, researchers continue to invest time in developing even more advanced dental drills so that dental treatments can become truly pain-free.

Sometimes with age, "amalgam tattoos" or discoloration of the pigment of the gums occurs. Diode lasers provide a very effective treatment for this problem.

Until now, the first line of detection against oral cancer was a biopsy of a suspected lesion and testing. A new process is in development that allows dentists to use a brush to collect cells and have them tested on site. This process will take about 10 minutes.
