Welcome to Tooth Tip Tuesday, Summer Edition ☀️ Those kiddos are out of school and spending more time at home again, which means...let the snacking begin! This month, we want to give you some great snack options that promote oral health. Today is all about the cheese, which is great for your teeth. Not only does it have high levels of phosphate and calcium, which naturally strengthen teeth and bones, but it also helps balance the pH level in your mouth, which means less harmful acid, more cleansing saliva and fewer cavities. Perfect!!

The American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry emphasize that early dental care and daily habits like brushing with fluoride toothpaste, flossing, and regular dental visits help prevent cavities, reduce pain and infection, and support lifelong health. Starting good habits early sets children up for strong, healthy smiles well into adulthood.

🦷 Flossing Fundamentals – Tip #4: Flossing with Braces or Space Maintainers
Braces, space maintainers, and other dental appliances make flossing even more important. Food and plaque can easily get trapped around wires and bands, increasing the risk of cavities and gum irritation. Tools like floss threaders, orthodontic floss, or water flossers are especially helpful. Some products to look at would be: DenTek Floss Threaders, Oral-B Super Floss, Platypus Orthodontic Flossers (pictured). Daily flossing keeps teeth and gums healthy throughout orthodontic treatment.

🦷 Flossing Fundamentals – Tip #3: Teaching Your Child to Floss
Most children don’t have the hand coordination to floss well on their own until around ages 8–10. Until then, parents should floss for them or closely supervise. You can use a product called “GumChucks” that have handles to improve dexterity (pictured). Start by letting your child practice while you guide them, making it part of the bedtime routine. Praise effort over perfection—building confidence and consistency is key to lifelong flossing success! But also don’t feel bad going back over their work after they’ve had a try; remember the end goal is clean, healthy teeth and gums.
