That’s exactly why early dental visits matter.
Cavities between the front teeth can be easy to miss. Many only show up on X-rays, and others take a trained eye to catch the earliest signs.

The good news? Catch them early and we have OPTIONS. 🐝

Sometimes preventive treatment can slow or even stop a cavity from progressing. Other times, a small, simple procedure is all it takes.

What I never want are surprises: cavities that go unnoticed until they become bigger problems.

As your pediatric dentist, my job isn’t just to treat cavities. It’s to monitor changes, catch concerns early, and help you make a plan before little problems become big ones.

That’s why I recommend your child’s first dental visit by age ONE. 🦷

Not all tongue-tie releases are the same, and the conversation matters more than the tool.

This little one had a scissor release shortly after birth, but significant restriction remained. In the first photo, you can still see thick tissue limiting tongue elevation.

For years, feeding was fine. Speech was fine. But something still felt off to mom. She’d been told everything looked okay, but she kept asking questions and sought another opinion because she wanted to be sure she wasn’t missing something.

That’s where a thoughtful evaluation matters- looking at the whole child, not just the appearance of the tongue:
👅 Where does the tongue rest?
😴 How are they sleeping and breathing?
🍎 How do they chew and swallow?
🔍 Is the restriction actually affecting function?

Swipe to see 1 week post-op. The white diamond-shaped area is normal healing tissue and is expected. Always follow your provider’s post-op instructions.

This isn’t about laser vs. scissors. Both can work well. What matters is the anatomy, the provider’s technique, and an honest conversation about risks, benefits, and realistic outcomes.

Sometimes the answer is treatment. Sometimes it’s “let’s monitor.” Sometimes it’s a referral to another specialist for additional evaluation or support.

The goal isn’t to treat every tongue-tie. It’s to make sure parents understand what we’re seeing, what it may or may not be affecting, and what their options are.

This is one child’s story. Every case is different, and results vary.

If something feels off, you’re allowed to ask questions and get a second opinion. 💛
