Our practice is growing, and we're looking for a hygienist to join our team two days a week. The days are flexible — let's find a schedule that actually works for your life. Whether you're balancing family, school, or another practice, we can work with you.

If you're prevention-focused and believe in stopping problems before they start, you will feel right at home here.

Few things are more difficult than watching a child struggle with restless sleep, mouth breathing, feeding challenges, or behavioral concerns without knowing why. Over the years, I've had the privilege of helping countless families find answers, and there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a child begin to thrive after receiving the right care.

For over 25 years, I've seen how closely airway health is connected to a child's growth, development, sleep quality, and overall well-being. Conditions such as tongue tie and sleep-disordered breathing are often overlooked, yet they can contribute to learning challenges, chronic fatigue, mouth breathing, and improper facial development. The encouraging news is that early diagnosis and treatment can make a remarkable difference.

At my Tupelo, MS practice, we take a comprehensive, minimally invasive approach to children's airway health. Myofunctional Therapy helps retrain the muscles of the face and tongue to encourage healthy breathing, swallowing, and proper oral function. When tongue tie is present, I perform laser frenectomies using advanced LightScalpelĀ® technology, providing a gentle procedure with less discomfort and faster healing for infants and children.
Every child deserves the opportunity to breathe well, sleep peacefully, and reach their full potential.

My team and I are passionate about identifying the root cause of airway concerns rather than simply treating symptoms. Seeing children sleep better, develop more confidently, and enjoy healthier lives is one of the greatest joys of my profession.

If your child snores, breathes through their mouth, struggles with feeding, or doesn't seem to be getting restorative sleep, I encourage you to schedule an evaluation. Together, we can develop a personalized plan that supports your child's health today and helps build a healthier future. šŸ’™šŸ‘¶āœØ

Summer is a time for vacations, family gatherings, outdoor activities, and making memories. ā˜€ļøšŸ–ļø But if you're living with TMJ/TMD symptoms, jaw pain, headaches, neck discomfort, teeth grinding, or facial pain can make it difficult to fully enjoy the season.

I'm Dr. Robert H. Thornton, DMD, and helping patients find relief from TMJ/TMD disorders is one of the most rewarding aspects of my practice. As a 400 Series Dental Bioesthetics (Level IV Graduate) of the OBI Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry and a member of the OBI Board of Directors, I have advanced training in diagnosing and treating complex TMJ cases using Bioesthetic Principles.
One of the most common questions I hear is, "What's the best way to treat TMJ?"

The good news is that in many cases, TMJ disorders can be treated without surgery. šŸŽ‰ One of my preferred treatment approaches is MAGO Therapy, which stands for Maxillary Anterior Guided Orthotic. This non-surgical, minimally invasive treatment is designed to help stabilize the jaw joints, relax overworked muscles, and reduce painful symptoms.

🦷 What is MAGO Therapy?
A MAGO is a highly specialized custom orthotic device that fits over the teeth and is adjusted regularly to help guide the jaw joints into a more stable and comfortable position. Through this process, we can accurately determine the ideal resting position of the jaw joints and create a more balanced chewing system.

Many TMJ symptoms are caused by an unstable bite. When the upper and lower teeth do not fit together properly, the jaw joints and muscles are forced to work harder, often resulting in:
āœ… Jaw pain
āœ… Headaches
āœ… Facial pain
āœ… Teeth grinding and clenching
āœ… Jaw popping or clicking
āœ… Muscle tension and spasms
āœ… Neck and shoulder discomfort

🌟 Why Patients Choose MAGO Therapy
Many patients begin experiencing symptom relief within just a few weeks of treatment. Some of the key benefits include:
āœ”ļø High success rates in reducing or eliminating TMJ symptoms
āœ”ļø Scientifically proven effectiveness for TMD treatment
āœ”ļø Accurate diagnosis once the jaw joints are stabilized
āœ”ļø Minimally invasive and non-surgical care
āœ”ļø Faster relief compared to many surgical treatment options

My passion for TMJ treatment is personal. Many of my own family members, including myself, have experienced TMJ and airway-related challenges. Early in my career, I recognized a need for more advanced TMJ care in North Mississippi and committed years of advanced training to help patients suffering from these complex conditions.

šŸ’™ A Personalized Approach to Long-Term Relief
My goal is not simply to mask symptoms. Once stability and comfort are achieved, we focus on restoring the entire chewing system and addressing the underlying causes of dysfunction using conservative, biologic, and minimally invasive treatment approaches whenever possible.

If TMJ symptoms are preventing you from enjoying life, this summer may be the perfect time to explore your options. My team and I are committed to helping patients achieve greater comfort, improved function, and better overall wellness.

Here's to a summer filled with smiles, comfort, and doing the things you love! ā˜€ļøšŸ˜šŸ¦·

A Mother’s Instinct, A Baby’s Relief šŸ’™šŸ‘¶
As a dentist, some of the most meaningful moments in my career come from helping babies, and their families, find relief when something just doesn’t feel right. Reeder’s story is one that truly touched my heart, and I feel honored to share it in hopes that it helps another family searching for answers.

Riley came to me after trusting her instincts as a mother. She had been told what so many parents hear: ā€œIt’s just colic,ā€ or ā€œbabies are just gassy.ā€ Yet she saw her baby in pain, fussy, struggling to feed, dealing with gas and discomfort that didn’t feel normal. šŸ’”

When I evaluated Reeder, we discovered he had multiple tethered oral tissues, a lip tie, tongue tie, and buccal (cheek) ties. These restrictions can significantly impact how a baby feeds. When oral function is limited, babies often swallow excess air, choke, gag, and experience digestive discomfort. Unfortunately, these issues are often overlooked or misdiagnosed.

My approach is always thorough, gentle, and centered around education. I take time to help families understand why their baby is struggling, not just what we see, but how it affects feeding, digestion, comfort, and long-term development. Every consultation and procedure is rooted in compassion and precision. ✨

Using advanced laser frenectomy techniques, along with guidance on proper pre- and post-care, my goal is to restore optimal oral function while supporting the entire family through the process. I also emphasize the importance of a team approach, often working alongside lactation consultants and bodywork professionals to ensure the best outcomes.

For Reeder, the transformation was incredible. His feeds became calmer, his discomfort decreased, and he began to thrive. Hearing Riley describe him as a ā€œcompletely different and happier babyā€ is exactly why I am so passionate about this work. 😊

If you are a parent reading this and something doesn’t feel right, I want to encourage you, please trust your instincts. You know your baby better than anyone. Oral ties are real, they are often missed, and they can have a profound impact on your child’s well-being.
It is truly a privilege to care for families like Riley’s and to serve our community here in Tupelo. Helping babies find comfort and helping parents feel heard is not just my profession, it is my calling.

Call us at (662) 842-8514 to schedule your consultation. šŸ’™

Dr. Robert H. Thornton, DMD

Minimally Invasive Biomimetic Dentistry: Preserving What Nature Gave You Through Science & Care 🌿🦷✨

If you’ve been living with a cracked tooth, an old failing filling, or persistent sensitivity, I want you to know there’s a better way forward—one that honors your natural tooth structure and works with your body, not against it.

As a Bioesthetic Dentist practicing in Tupelo, Mississippi since 2000, I’ve dedicated my career to minimally invasive approaches that preserve as much of your natural tooth as possible. Biomimetic Dentistry is one of the most powerful tools in my practice, and it’s transformed how I approach restorative care. The results have been life-changing for so many of my patients—and I’m deeply honored every time someone trusts me with their care. šŸ¤šŸ’™

What Is Biomimetic Dentistry? šŸ”¬šŸ¦·
The word ā€œbiomimeticā€ means ā€œmimicking life.ā€ In dentistry, it means restoring teeth in a way that replicates their natural structure, function, and strength. Instead of traditional methods that often require removing large amounts of healthy tooth structure, Biomimetic Dentistry focuses on preserving what you were born with and rebuilding only what’s truly damaged or decayed.

Think of it this way: your natural teeth are masterpieces of design. They’re flexible, strong, and built to last a lifetime. Traditional crowns and large fillings can be rigid and require significant tooth reduction. Biomimetic restorations, on the other hand, work with your tooth’s natural biomechanics—bending, flexing, and functioning just like the original structure.

Why This Matters for Your Long-Term Health 🌱
I’ve seen too many patients over the years who’ve been told they need root canals, crowns, or extractions—when in reality, their teeth could have been saved with a more conservative approach. It’s heartbreaking because once a tooth is over-reduced or removed, there’s no going back.

Biomimetic Dentistry allows me to:

āœ”ļø Preserve healthy tooth structure – We only remove what’s damaged, protecting the rest.

āœ”ļø Avoid unnecessary root canals – By sealing and bonding teeth properly, we can often prevent the need for endodontic treatment.

āœ”ļø Restore natural strength – Biomimetic restorations flex like real teeth, reducing the risk of fractures.

āœ”ļø Extend the life of your teeth – Many patients keep their natural teeth for decades longer with this approach.

āœ”ļø Reduce sensitivity – Proper sealing techniques eliminate the nerve irritation that often follows traditional treatments.
This isn’t just about fixing teeth. It’s about giving you the best possible chance to keep your natural smile for life. 😊

How Biomimetic Dentistry Works šŸ› ļøšŸ¦·
When you come to my practice with a damaged or decayed tooth, here’s what happens:

1. Thorough Evaluation šŸ”
I carefully examine the tooth to understand exactly what’s compromised and what’s still healthy. My goal is always to preserve as much natural structure as possible.

2. Minimally Invasive Preparation
Using precise techniques and advanced magnification, I remove only the damaged portion of the tooth—nothing more. This is where Biomimetic Dentistry truly shines: we’re not cutting away healthy tooth structure ā€œjust in case.ā€

3. Layered Bonding & Sealing 🧬
I rebuild your tooth layer by layer using biocompatible materials that bond directly to the natural structure. Each layer is carefully cured and sealed to create a restoration that’s as strong—or stronger—than the original tooth.

4. Natural Function Restored 🌟
The final restoration looks, feels, and functions like your natural tooth. You can chew, smile, and live without worry. Many patients tell me they forget which tooth was even restored!

A Personal Story That Still Moves Me šŸ’™
I’ll never forget a patient who came to me in tears a few years ago. She’d been told by another dentist that she needed a root canal and crown on a tooth that was causing her pain. She was devastated—not just because of the cost, but because she’d already lost several teeth to similar treatments that had failed over time.

After examining her tooth, I realized we could save it with a Biomimetic approach. We removed the decay, sealed the tooth meticulously, and placed a bonded restoration that preserved nearly all of her natural tooth structure. Within days, her pain was gone. Within weeks, she was smiling again—confidently, joyfully, without fear.

She recently celebrated 5 years with that tooth, and it’s still going strong. That’s the power of working with nature instead of against it. 🌿

And that’s why I love what I do.

When Should You Consider Biomimetic Dentistry? 🦷
Biomimetic techniques are ideal for:
āœ”ļø Cracked or fractured teeth – We can often save teeth that others might extract.
āœ”ļø Large cavities – Instead of a crown, we can bond and restore the tooth conservatively.
āœ”ļø Failed old fillings – Replace them with durable, sealed restorations.
āœ”ļø Teeth with deep decay – Many times, we can avoid root canals entirely.
āœ”ļø Sensitivity or pain – Proper sealing eliminates nerve irritation.

If you’ve been told you need aggressive treatment, I encourage you to get a second opinion. There may be a better, more conservative path forward.

Why I’m Passionate About This Approach ā¤ļø
I’ve spent over two decades learning, training, and refining my skills to offer the most advanced care possible. My training through The OBI Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry taught me to see the mouth as an integrated system—not just individual teeth.

Biomimetic Dentistry fits perfectly within that philosophy because it respects the natural biology of your teeth and works to preserve their integrity.

This is also deeply personal for me. Members of my own family have benefited from these conservative techniques, and I’ve witnessed firsthand how life-changing it can be to keep your natural teeth healthy and strong. I’m honored and humbled every time a patient trusts me with their care, and I never take that responsibility lightly.

Let’s Preserve Your Smile Together 🌿🦷
If you’re facing dental challenges and want to explore a more conservative, tooth-preserving approach, I’d be honored to meet with you. Together, we can create a plan that protects your natural teeth and supports your long-term health and wellness.

šŸ“ž Call us today at (662) 842-8514 to schedule your consultation.

Let’s work together to give you the healthy, confident smile you deserve—using the best that modern dentistry has to offer. ✨

Sincerely,
Dr. Robert H. Thornton, DMD

Help me out here! Would you let a robot prep your tooth for a crown?

Boston-based company Perceptive made history on July 30, 2024, by performing the first fully automated dental procedure without human intervention during the surgery. The system used an advanced AI-powered robotic arm to complete a full tooth restoration with remarkable precision and efficiency.

The process began with high-resolution 3D scanning, followed by deep-learning algorithms that mapped and planned the procedure in real time. The robotic system then carried out automated crown preparation and placement. This breakthrough highlights how artificial intelligence and robotics are reshaping modern dentistry with enhanced accuracy and consistency.

02/13/2026

If you believe you have TMJ disorder, and you’re searching for relief from your pain and symptoms, I urge you to consider my advanced treatment option called MAGO Therapy. MAGO stands for Maxillary Anterior Guided Orthotic. A MAGO is a device that is worn over the teeth and adjusted weekly. This non-surgical, minimally-invasive therapeutic approach is one of the single most effective methods for providing long-term TMD relief.

Through this method, the proper alignment of the jaw joints in their resting position can be determined with extreme accuracy. This data can then be used to calibrate an oral split that provides precise positioning for optimal results and lasting relief. To date, MAGO Therapy is the ONLY type of splint therapy that has been scientifically proven to help with TMJ problems.

Hello, I’m Dr. Robert H. Thornton, DMD. I enjoy all aspects of Dentistry but I am especially passionate about the therapeutic treatments that produce big changes in my patients’ lives.

Many of my family members, myself included, have suffered from TMJ and Airway Dysfunction. Early on in my practice, I felt a calling to help people who were suffering from these types of complex issues. Many of my patients were suffering from TMJ disorders, bite problems, muscle pain, facial pain, headache pain, and jaw problems. I recognized that there was a piece of the puzzle that was missing and that there was a need for more advanced Dentistry in North Mississippi.

In 2008, I embarked upon a 4-year journey to further advance my skills in the diagnosis and treatment of complex patient cases involving degenerating chewing systems using Bioesthetic Principles, which focuses on complete dental restorative treatment for patients who have (TMJ) temporomandibular joint issues. I am a Level 4 Graduate having completed all 4 levels of training at The OBI Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry. I also had the privilege of becoming an OBI Board of Director Officer, in October 2022, and enjoy serving with colleagues.

Discover the Benefits of MAGO Therapy:
Many of my patients are able to obtain relief from their symptoms in just a few short weeks of MAGO Therapy. Some of the advantages of this method are:

• High rate of success: Debilitating symptoms can be reduced or, in some cases, even eliminated entirely.

• Accuracy: Once the jaw joints are stable, an accurate diagnosis can be obtained. An accurate diagnosis is essential for treatment to be successful.

• Scientifically proven: The MAGO Splint is the only occlusal device that has been scientifically proven to reduce TMD symptoms.

• Minimally invasive: MAGO Therapy is a minimally invasive, non-surgical treatment option that allows the patient to remain generally comfortable throughout the process.

• Faster relief: Patients are generally able to obtain relief faster with MAGO Therapy than with joint surgery. It may take months for a patient to fully recover from surgery and experience the benefits of their treatment.

Biologic & Minimally Invasive Dental Treatments:
The final phase in the treatment process once we have a diagnosis is to restore your dental system back to full health. We can do this by correcting any biologic issues at hand with holistic, minimally invasive treatments.

Your treatment plan may include several components, but rest assured that we will be as conservative as possible. Not only will this help you remain comfortable throughout the process, but it will also provide you with better, longer lasting results.
