It’s Meet the Mathis Team Monday, and today we’re introducing Andrea!

Andrea has spent 33 years in dentistry, nearly 9 of those right here in our building and the last 3½ with Dr. Mathis.

A Tupelo native, Andrea says her favorite part of the job is loving people through what she does and getting to know them along the way. After all these years, her coworkers and patients have become more like family.

Outside the office, she's a mom to three daughters and a proud grandmother. She loves running, painting, traveling, good music and spending time with the people she loves.

A couple of fun facts: Andrea is a twin AND has twins of her own. She's also apparently very easy to embarrass, something her coworkers have definitely figured out.

We're lucky to have her on the Mathis Dental team.

Coffee may not be your teeth’s best friend, but we’re certainly not going to tell you to give it up.

"Why do my gums bleed when I floss?"

We hear that more often than you might think...
Bleeding gums can be a sign of inflammation caused by plaque buildup, and avoiding flossing usually doesn't make the problem better. Consistent brushing and flossing can actually help your gums become healthier and bleed less over time.

If the bleeding continues or you're also noticing swelling or tenderness, that's something we'd want to take a look at.

And yes, floss picks count. Regular floss is great, but we'll take the flossing you'll actually do.

It’s Meet the Mathis Team Monday, and today we’re introducing Stacey!

Stacey is one of the friendly faces at our front desk and has been with Mathis Dental for three years.

Her favorite part of the job is meeting new people, especially patients who arrive nervous about going to the dentist and leave feeling comfortable, cared for and glad they came. She says the staff at Mathis Dental genuinely feels like family, and everyone shares the same goal of making patients feel valued and at ease.

Originally from New Albany, Stacey and her husband Michael have been married for 32 years. They have two children and two granddaughters, Millie and Livvy. Outside the office, you’ll usually find her spending time with family, traveling, shopping or hunting for antiques.

And apparently, if you ever need a gift box, Stacey has you covered. Her coworkers make fun of her for saving the office delivery boxes “just in case.”

This patient came in for a routine cleaning when Dr. Mathis asked a simple question: “Do you like your smile?”

The answer was no. He didn’t like the size, spacing or color of his teeth, and it had gotten to the point that he avoided smiling and public speaking because of them. He also assumed doing something about it would be out of reach.

After talking through his options, they made a plan that addressed the dental work he needed while also giving him the smile he had always wanted.

A few months later, the difference is pretty incredible. But the best part isn’t just how his teeth look. It’s having the confidence to smile and speak without thinking twice.

Meet the Mathis Team Monday: Tina

Tina is our Insurance Coordinator and has been with Mathis Dental for 3½ years, bringing 27 years of experience in dentistry to our team.

A Nettleton native, Tina says her favorite part of the job is the people, from patients she’s gotten to know over the years to coworkers who feel more like family.

She and her husband Brad have two kids, three grandsons and two Goldendoodles.

Outside the office, she loves family time, shopping, the beach and cheering on Ole Miss.

One random Tina fact: she likes the smell of skunk. We have questions too.
