10 YEARS OF BECOMING

Ten years ago, after an atypical dysplasia (precursor to breast cancer) diagnosis, I wanted to apply what I was discovering to help my patients in their own health. Origin Dental Wellness was created utilizing a wider lens. One that considered not only your smile and oral health, but your overall health and well-being. As it should be.

We wanted to ask better questions.
To keep learning.
To understand how the health of the mouth connects to the health of the entire body. AND, to create a place where patients felt heard, understood and genuinely cared for.

For 10 years, we’ve continued to question, learn, evolve and embrace better ways of doing dentistry because better health has always been the goal.

But the reason behind it all has NOT changed: Help people become healthier and never stop looking for a better way to do it.

August 28 marks 10 years of Origin Dental Wellness.

And what a decade it has been. 💜

The proposed aluminum smelting plant in Inola has people asking new questions about something that’s been part of American life for nearly 80 years: fluoride. With the facility reportedly permitted for up to 425 tons of total fluoride compounds annually, maybe it’s time we took a closer look at its potential risks to the body.

Exposure to fluoride is suspected of impacting nearly every part of the human body, and the potential for harm has been clearly established in scientific research. A 2006 report by the National Research Council (NRC) identified a number of health risks associated with fluoride exposure. Susceptible subpopulations, such as infants, children, and individuals with diabetes or renal or thyroid problems, are known to be more severely impacted by intake of fluoride.

Sources of human exposure to fluoride have drastically increased since community water fluoridation began in the U.S. in the 1940’s. In addition to water, these sources now include food, air, soil, pesticides, fertilizers, dental products used at home and in the dental office, pharmaceutical drugs, cookware (non-stick Teflon), and an array of other consumer items used on a regular basis.

Since its inception, ODW has been a fluoride-free practice and we will continue to be a fluoride-free practice.
