DENTAL INSURANCE: THEN(2015) VS. NOW — WHY DOES IT MATTER?

Have you ever wondered why your dental office may not participate with every insurance plan anymore? The truth is, dental insurance has changed dramatically over the last 10 years.
And unfortunately, reimbursement rates have not kept pace with the cost of providing quality dental care.

📊 HERE'S WHAT THE NUMBERS SHOW:

➡️ Dental insurance reimbursement: Up approximately 29% since 2015

➡️ Overall inflation: Up approximately 37% since 2015

➡️ Dental equipment & supply costs: Up approximately 53% since 2015

That means the cost of running a dental practice has increased substantially faster than what many insurance plans are reimbursing for dental procedures.

The American Dental Association has reported that reimbursement rates are not keeping pace with inflation or practice expenses, creating a significant financial squeeze for dental practices. In fact, low insurance reimbursement and denials were identified as the #1 concern among dentists looking toward 2026.

At Desert Springs Family Dentistry, our goal has never been to make dental care unaffordable. We are a privately owned family dental practice, and we believe our patients deserve quality dentistry, honest recommendations, and reasonable fees.

We may not be contracted with every HMO dental plan or every PPO plan, but we DO participate with several insurance plans and continue to work with our patients to maximize their available benefits.

We also understand that not everyone has dental insurance—and even those who do can still have significant out-of-pocket expenses.

📢 Important Appointment Policy Update

At Desert Springs Family Dentistry, we value every patient's time. Unfortunately, we have experienced an increase in missed appointments and last-minute cancellations, making it difficult for other patients who are waiting for care.

Beginning immediately, we will be reinforcing our $75 missed appointment/no-show fee for appointments that are missed or canceled with less than 24 hours' notice.

We understand that emergencies do happen, and we will always take those situations into consideration. However, frequent missed appointments prevent us from offering those valuable appointment times to other patients in need.

Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and for helping us provide the highest level of care to all of our patients. We appreciate you being a valued part of the Desert Springs Family Dentistry family. 🦷💙
