Six years ago we opened our doors (during the COVID era). Everybody wore masks, plexiglass barriers, hand sanitizer… it was a wild time. Fast forward six years later and we’re still thriving. It’s been an amazing journey helping thousands of kids have a dental home. Cheers to another 6 years of camo work shirts, fighting sugar bugs, and helping kids love the dentist.

Sometimes I actually get to take off the scrubs and dress like a dentist! My wife and I are out in Napa, California for a pediatric dental conference, “Bourbon and Baby Teeth.” It’s a great continuing education event where I’m able to collaborate with other dentists, listen to lectures, learn new techniques, and see new products in our industry.

This is not A.I. These are real kids, with real teeth. The majority of kids who end up in this condition are the result of sugary drinks (juice/chocolate milk/soda), bad genetics, and difficulty brushing. Two out of the three we can control as parents. Being good parents means we have to do difficult things that our kids don’t always want to do.

Of course they would love to drink apple juice all day. Of course they don’t want us to brush their teeth.
Of course they want to do it themselves.

I tell parents all the time… if it feels like you’re doing Jiu-Jitsu and you’re making your kids cry when you brush, that means you are doing it right. Get in there, be aggressive, get the plaque off, and stay consistent. A minute of tears is far better than anesthesia, a mouthful of missing teeth, and an expensive dental bill.

This 9 year-old boy had a permanent front tooth come in with an enamel defect. He’s a sweet kid and he didn’t like the way it looked, so we decided to fix it for him. I polished out the defective enamel, and bonded in a nice white veneer of composite resin filling material. He was a great helper and the tooth looks so much better!

This summer, we did a drawing for patients who came in to the office. The winner of a new Ninja Creamy is… Karli Dodgion! Thanks to everybody for keeping us busy this summer. (And no judgement that the kid’s dentist is giving away an ice cream maker 😂)

Well this isn’t something you see everyday…
Shoutout to the parents of this little guy for being proactive getting him to a pediatric dentist early in life. We were able to catch this lesion of bone growth and figure out a plan to get it removed before it caused more serious damage. Shoutout to our oral surgery friends at BJC Oral Surgery for helping us out.

If I’ve learned anything this summer, it’s that every teenage boy in northeast Missouri who plays baseball thinks these shorts are the coolest thing ever. I don’t understand it… but to celebrate our busy summer season winding down I decided to rock a pair on casual Friday.
