Taryn Mitoma
Wildlife and Fish Conservation Biology major , Paleobiology minor
I included two spirits of Japanese folklore to represent my culture and my degrees in wildlife/fish conservation and paleobiology. Bakekujira is the skeleton whale spirit that takes revenge on those who kill whales, and Namazu is the world-bearing catfish that creates earthquakes and tsunamis when it shakes. I painted and cut out each piece, folded several origami cherry blossoms for the rim, and created a koinobori windsock for my tassel symbolizing courage and strength.
Graduation cap with a Japanese-inspired design, featuring a skeletal fish, waves, and a red sun. The cap is adorned with pearl strings and pink sakura flowers. The tassel has a '2024' charm, and the background shows a blue sky and clouds.
