Did you know nitrous oxide—often called “laughing gas”—can help make your child’s dental visit more comfortable?

Nitrous oxide is a gentle form of sedation that can help children feel calm and at ease during certain dental treatments. Your child stays awake, can communicate with the dental team, and returns to their normal behavior quickly afterward! 😀

How to increase brushing during the school year?

Establishing a solid morning and nighttime routine two weeks before school starts helps children build consistent brushing habits for the school year!

Tie to morning tasks: Connect brushing directly to a non-negotiable step like putting on shoes or grabbing a backpack.

Play two-minute songs: Turn on an upbeat favorite song or a dedicated brushing track to ensure they hit the full recommended time.

Use visual timers: Try fun digital apps, sand timers, or a sticker reward calendar to track daily success.

Lead by example: Brush side-by-side with your child to model proper technique and show that oral care is a family priority😀🪥🦷

When should you worry about thumb sucking?

Thumb sucking is a normal comfort habit for many babies and young children. But as your child grows, prolonged thumb sucking can affect how the teeth and jaws develop.

A few things to know:
• Most children naturally stop between ages 2–4.
• Persistent thumb sucking can contribute to an open bite, changes in tooth alignment, or altered jaw development.

How can you help?
Focus on positive encouragement rather than punishment. Notice and praise thumb-free moments, identify triggers like boredom or bedtime, and talk with your pediatric dentist about strategies for your child.

If you’re concerned about your child’s thumb-sucking habit, don’t wait—let’s talk! Early guidance can make the transition easier. 👍🦷🤍

Healthy chewing helps babies build jaw strength, move food with their tongue, and practice spitting out un-swallowable pieces safely.

Large pieces like a spare rib bone, corn cob, or mango pit give babies something firm to gnaw and practice lateral tongue movement without easily biting off chunks.

Traditional teethers can also help soothe sore gums and encourage chewing! 🦴😀
