Happy Saturday! I wanted to jump on and do a quick update for everyone. The last couple weeks have been busy planning, coordinating, ordering, pricing, and there have been some moving parts. It’s been a time when I wish there were about 8 more hours in the day! (Maybe I could get a nap too?) I’m going to include some details that our project manager has given us recently.

• The drywall and mud work will be finished next week on the newly framed walls. Other walls and ceiling are completed and painted.
• The flooring has been ordered and the prep and install is set for 5/20.
• Once the flooring is completed, all of the cabinets will be reinstalled and hooked up including the water lines and oxygen lines.
• The new cabinets for the lunch room are in process of being ordered.
• The new window glass will be installed the week of 5/18 providing the glass comes in - glass has been ordered but is not in yet.
• The electrician will be starting electrical repairs Mon 5/18 and will be done by the end of the week.
• We are meeting the window treatment people Monday morning to do their final measurements before ordering.
• We’ve all updated our OSHA, HIPAA, and CPR/BLS during this time.
• They say we are looking at possibly June to be finished enough to resume patient care, but it will be a bit of an ongoing process for us with ordering some items and making sure all equipment works properly.

We are so incredibly grateful for many aspects during this unprecedented time:
-First of all, we thank God that nobody was injured.
-Also, we are thankful that we have awesome and talented people in many areas that are helping to restore our building, and are working hard and moving it along as quick as possible.
-We are beyond grateful for colleagues who have reached out and are so gracious and helpful for us.
-Our team is so amazing and everyone has truly come together to do what needs to be done in this time.
-And lastly, we are grateful for our patients - the heartbeat of our practice - for all the checking in, patience, and understanding.

Our request for patience continues, but we seem to be in a final stretch and are eager to get back in and see everyone again. There will be many changes and some updates, and we hope that carries over into improving your overall experience. Have a beautiful and blessed day!

Happy Mother’s Day!
To all those who are mothers, foster moms, stepmoms, to all who yearn to be moms, and to all who affectionately care for others. Maybe you’ve lost your mother or child, for which I deeply apologize and hope you’ve found some comfort and peace today.
Thank you to my mom and MIL - love you both very much!
Being a mom is amazing, holy work, and we honor mothers everywhere today. Make your mom smile if she’s still around, and hope you’ve gotten to enjoy the beautiful weather.

Since we haven’t been able to see patients due to the tornado damage done to the dental office on 3/6, we’ve been putting our off-time to good use! Continuing education is very important and we’ve had quite a variety, and two weeks ago we refreshed our OSHA protocols.

It’s Administrative Professionals Day!!
I don’t have a picture of the two ladies together, but Danielle and Heather do an amazing job! They are who we trust to be the face and first impression of the practice.
Danielle is at the front when you check in, and helps with knowing about insurance information. Heather has typically been your smiling face upon check out. Both do much more in the background to help make sure you have as smooth of an experience as possible.
If you need to call the office currently, you’ll most likely speak to Heather. Danielle is working with us for a few emergencies. So proud of our team and how everyone is coming together to do what needs to be done.
Help give these two gals a shoutout today!

4/21/26:
Many people have asked if our office is open yet or how it’s coming along. I suppose my lack of updates recently may play a part. I didn’t know what exactly to update you all on. Please allow me to explain what I know.
I found out recently that the restoration portion typically takes longer than the demolition - makes sense. It’s quicker (and noisier) to knock down a tower of Legos than to build it back up for instance (says a toddler mom). Anyhow, our drywall and painting is completed. Flooring is being quoted and ordered. We should be picking out window treatment/covering options soon. A new sign is being made. Attention is also being turned toward the dental equipment and contents as some got damaged. And there is much going on in the background as well. We are not back in the office quite yet, but are making progress. Thank you for the questions and concern, and thanks so much for your continued patience and understanding. We will certainly notify patients upon our return, and work on getting you rescheduled if you missed your appointment. Please do call the office if you have a dental emergency.
In the meantime, your favorite dental team is doing the annual OSHA/HIPAA training soon and CPR in a couple weeks.

A sweet woman mentioned to me the other day that she appreciates the updates and the way it sounds like I’m just talking to you all. That made me smile because, well, I am. I want you to know that we are real people, just like you. We have good days and bad, successes, areas to improve, beliefs, and hobbies. I like to write, draw, paint, do crafts, play piano and sing, workout, be with family, and travel. Dr Travis likes to hunt, fish, be outdoors, stay busy, and spend time with family. We have our own family and lives outside of dentistry, too (though currently it doesn’t feel like it). We just spent a lot of time and money for a lot of education, and are still learning as we go, just like some of you as well. Isn’t that one of the beauties of life? Keep learning, stay curious. We, as dentists, are here to help people maintain their smile, get out of pain, address pathology, return to function and esthetics, and when applicable, get their confidence back.

We lost our dental school anatomy professor 2 days ago. Just another reminder of how short life is, and how lucky and blessed we are that nobody was injured in the tornado. Hug your loved ones.
Anyhow, to keep it light, what time do you go to the dentist?

…tooth hurty! 🤷🏼‍♀️🥁😅

Point? We’re here. Office is coming along. We’re using this time wisely. We’re real. We love our patients. Thanks for reading and have a beautiful day! 🥰

4/6/26: Happy Monday! Happy belated Easter, and a happy belated birthday yesterday to Dr. Travis! He had a great day. It was a beautiful resurrection Sunday, and we’re so grateful to know that we are blessed and not alone in this situation and in life.

I have not forgotten about our caring patients! Last week, between being Holy Week and spring break for many, it seemed like things came to a screeching pause while many of our people in charge were away on vacation or had spring break with family.

There are a couple updates for this week, though. The siding on our back exterior wall, soffit, fascia, and roof like mentioned before are all now complete! The restoration and repair part of the team began their work and had come in and done the drywall. (I felt like a real life storm chaser because while tornado sirens were going off again in Three Rivers, I was headed to the office [right toward the dark clouds] due to a fire alarm that was thankfully a false alarm.) See drywall video update in comments. The team is leaving flooring samples and disposing of some items that were deemed a total loss this week, and I’m sure there will be more decisions to be made soon.

Brush, floss, water floss, tongue scrape, no teeth as tools, minimize clenching/grinding, keep appliances in cases or your mouth, etc! Please give our office phone number a call during regular business hours if you’re having urgent dental issues. I will update again as things continue or I notice changes at the office! Personally, I cannot wait to travel again 🙃 Hope you all have a great week!

Building update time 3/26/26
We met with the group responsible for helping with the contents of the office a few days ago (30 years worth, glad it wasn’t just on us). He explained it like imagine we were to turn the building upside down, nothing should fall out. They determined items that were a total loss from destruction or can be taken to clean. They finished up the first portion of getting everything out yesterday. It is oddly empty. Next, the repairs and restoration can potentially start next week and once that long process is completed, they can come help put contents back in the building.
Meanwhile, our siding company has picked up the fascia and soffit and began their work. I think that’ll get a brief pause since we hear more severe weather is coming our way today, though. We also had the sign company come take a look and quote for what is needed, another new sign. We are moving through the process as well as can be expected. Looking forward to resuming patient care for all of you and our community.
Thank you again for your patience as we juggle all of this for the business, our awesome team and patients, insurances, repairs, decisions, and not to mention our own families. Some days are better than others. Ownership is not for the faint of heart and we appreciate all of your kindness, support, and prayers.
And finally, dentist speaking now: please chew carefully, don’t use your teeth as tools, avoid ice chewing, and brush and floss your teeth and your children’s teeth if applicable (as should we always anyhow! Just currently even more important!) 🦷

3/21/26: We now have 2 steps complete! 🎉
They are done with the cleanup/building assessments/drying - Demolition portion, and we now have a new roof! Huge shoutout and thank you to Servpro and Rose Roofing for an awesome job and working so quickly!
We just met with the company addressing the contents as well as the restoration project manager yesterday. We don’t have an official completion estimate date quite yet, but we are moving right along in the process. Here is a quick photo comparison of the roof. Now it’s on to the next steps of addressing contents and beginning repairs! 💪🏼 Thank you for your continued understanding, thoughts, and prayers.

******** PSA *** TORNADO CLEANUP ********

To our beloved patients:

Due to the significant tornado destruction on March 6, our building was considerably damaged and we had no choice but to *temporarily* pause business in order to
CLEAN AND RE-BUILD
We are grateful no one was injured or killed.

Please follow these instructions:

*If you have an appointment between now and mid-May, we will be in touch with you to reschedule. Please be patient with our office team members as they are overwhelmed with this task. They are working through the schedule as best they can.

*If you have a dental emergency between now and mid-May, please call the office at 269.279.7876 (normal business hours of 7a-5p) and leave your name, phone number, and description of the emergency. We will be monitoring these messages and will return your call to determine the proper procedure. We regret we will only be able to service patients of record during this time.

*We will continue to monitor the re-building progress and thank you for your understanding & cooperation during this difficult time.

Update Sunday 3/15:
Since we are taking things week by week currently, I wanted to jump on here and do a new update. We will still be temporarily closed this week.
-More “skylights” are in place as they open areas of the ceiling that are affected from the water damage.
-Roof work is happening, with what is possible on the few nice weather days we’ve had, and we met with the company to do our siding last week.
-We’ve gotten word that all of the flooring will need to be replaced.
-It sounds like we may get to meet the Restoration project manager this week.

We have been very impressed with the expedition and communication of our companies as we try to get up and running as soon as possible for everyone. Three Rivers and surrounding communities: please be safe with more extreme weather coming. (Mother Nature is PMSing and Michigan Storm Chasers said the map of advisories for the country is looking like a Bob Ross painting.) I promise we’re professional, and also real, and who doesn’t need a chuckle at this time. Thank you all again for your understanding.
