Did your dentist tell you you need a crown? π¦·
Let's briefly walk through what a crown actually is, how we do it, and which materials we prefer for the most natural-looking result.
There are a few different materials we can use:
Full metal (like gold) β a great, long-lasting restoration. Strong and reliable, but obviously not the most natural-looking option.
Porcelain fused to metal β has a tooth-colored outside layer, but there's still metal underneath. The downside: if your gums recede over the years, you can start to see a dark line at the gumline.
Zirconia and e.max β these are newer all-ceramic materials. No metal inside, no dark lines, and they look incredibly natural. They're also extremely strong and durable. Honestly, this is where modern dentistry is heading.
Each material has its place, but for most patients today, zirconia or e.max gives the best combination of strength and natural appearance.
