We had a ROARING good time on our first day of orthodontics! 🦖🦷🎉

Dr. Kim and Dr. Ho officially kicked off orthodontics at Alden Bridge, and we’re so excited to offer even more specialized care for our growing patients! 🌸

Did you know the American Association of Orthodontists recommends children have their first orthodontic check-up no later than age 7? That doesn’t mean your child will need braces right away! An early evaluation gives our specialists the opportunity to monitor jaw growth, tooth development, bite concerns, and spacing — and determine the right time for treatment, if it’s needed.

One of the biggest predictors of a successful outcome is preparing the body before the procedure and supporting healing after.

When a patient has been living with a restricted tongue, the muscles, fascia, and nervous system often develop compensatory patterns. If those tight, protective patterns aren’t addressed, they can continue to place tension on the healing wound, limiting mobility and making it more difficult for the tongue to function as intended.

As a dentist, I pay close attention to how children sleep, which is why I make it a point to ask these questions during exams. Things like mouth breathing, snoring, or restless sleep aren’t just minor concerns- they can impact a child’s growth, behavior, learning, and overall health.

Ideally, breathing at night should be quiet, through the nose, and effortless. When it’s not, it can be a sign that something deeper is going on with the airway.

If a child isn’t waking up well-rested or is consistently breathing through their mouth, it’s worth looking into. These patterns can affect not only sleep quality but also dental development and facial growth.

The good news is, there are ways to address it- and catching it early can make a big difference!

When the airway is compromised, the effects don’t always show up where you expect.

Sleep, behavior, focus, mood, growth, and overall health are deeply connected to how we breathe—especially during sleep. What may look like isolated symptoms are often branches of the same root: a compromised airway.

The key is recognizing the red flags early and addressing the why, not just the symptoms. And remember—it’s never too early or too late to improve airway health.

Awareness leads to action. Action leads to better breathing, better sleep, and better quality of life.
