Our Ice Cream Stroll flavor is… Greek Mastiha! 🇬🇷🍦

When we were asked to choose a flavor that represents Faklis FIT, we knew we wanted something that reflected our Greek heritage and our family business.

Mastiha is a traditional Greek flavor from the island of Chios, made from the natural resin of the mastic tree. It has a light, refreshing, botanical flavor with subtle pine-like notes and has been enjoyed in Greece for generations.

You’ll find mastiha used in favorites like ice cream, tsoureki, sweets, liqueurs, and even natural chewing gum.

We’re excited to share a little taste of Greece with Downtown Tarpon Springs today.

After our founder, Vasile Faklis, opened the doors in 1912, his sons, George and Michael Faklis, continued the family tradition, dedicating their lives to serving generations of customers with quality footwear and expert shoe repair.

Today, Vasile Faklis, George’s son and our owner, proudly carries that legacy forward, combining our family’s history with expert orthopedic care and a continued commitment to exceptional service.

Every great story has a beginning.

As we continue celebrating Founders Week, we’re taking a look back at the man who started it all.

Vasile Faklis came to Tarpon Springs from the island of Symi, Greece, in 1908. After proudly serving in World War I, he opened Faklis Department Store & Shoe Repair in 1912 with a simple goal: provide quality craftsmanship, exceptional service, and take care of every customer who walked through the door.

More than a century later, those same values continue to guide everything we do at Faklis FIT.

We’re proud to honor his legacy during Founders Week, and we’re grateful to everyone who has been part of our story over the years.
