Patients in need of a long term dental prosthetic are encouraged to contact Dr. Abdoney about dental implants in Tampa. When compared with traditional alternatives, dental implants are more comfortable, better looking, and are more predictable in the long term. In fact, they can last an entire lifetime with proper maintenance.

People often lose teeth for different reasons. Whether it is due to injury, disease, or a tooth extraction, you will need to replace your missing teeth with dental prosthetics in order to eat and speak properly as well as to prevent further bone deterioration. In the past, patients had to choose between a removable denture and a fixed bridge. However, new technology has brought us more appealing solutions. Today’s doctors and patients agree that dental implants are the most favorable long term solution for tooth replacement.

Why are dental implants better?
Dentures and fixed bridges are great solutions and are still viable options for tooth replacement. However, they can lead to increased complications over time such as bone or tissue deterioration and an increased risk of decay. In some cases, deterioration can be so severe as to necessitate a tooth extraction or cause teeth to fall out on their own. This is why dental implants are so highly preferred. Not only do they preserve bone and tissue structures, they also provide increased stability. This means that there is no risk of slippage or discomfort, which often happens with dentures. Additionally, dental implants have a more natural appearance, giving patients greater confidence in their smile.

How do they work?
A dental implant is essentially a titanium post that is surgically implanted into your jaw. Over a period of three to six months, the bone and titanium will fuse together through a natural process known as “osseointegration.” Once the implant has fully integrated, it will act just like a natural tooth. Dental implants do not slip out of place or cause damage to nearby teeth. They also help prevent deterioration by stimulating the gums and jaw bone. Furthermore, the titanium structure makes dental implants resistant to decay.

Replace traditional dental impressions
with highly accurate digital data.
With the Straumann® CARES® Intraoral Scanner you can quickly and easily acquire digital impression data that can be used to design and produce prosthodontic solutions. You can save a considerable amount of time compared to conventional methods that require physical models to be fabricated and shipped. Digital impressions replace conventional tray impressions, which are unpleasant for the patient and treatment can begin much earlier.

There are millions of germs that live in your mouth. If you have gum disease symptoms or suffer from gum disease, it is important to seek gum disease treatment, as you have open wounds in your gums that allow the bacteria to enter directly into your blood stream and circulate throughout your body. Some of the bacteria normally found in the mouth enter your bloodstream through infected gums and can relocate to other parts of your body with the potential of creating disease in organs and systems.

Much research is being done to investigate if a definitive link exists between periodontal disease and other systemic illnesses. Many of the results are inconclusive. However, research has shown some links between periodontal disease and heart disease, ischemic stroke, respiratory disease, head and neck cancer, kidney disease, diabetes, and increased risk of pre-term delivery. Seeking gum disease treatment early on is vital to protecting your oral and general health.

While many gum disease symptoms exist, tooth loss is the most severe. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss for the majority of adults in the United States. Losing your teeth, however, is not the only danger of this disease. When teeth become lost, it is more difficult for patients to chew properly and may even affect the types of foods that they are able to consume. Without a healthy, nutritious diet, overall health can decline, further leading to systemic illness. If you notice that your teeth are becoming loose or if any other gum disease symptoms are occurring, seek treatment right away.

When you have gum disease, there is an active, living infection in your mouth. This infection releases toxins throughout the entire body via the blood vessels in your mouth causing a variety of health related issues. Many people have this condition, yet are not even aware.

Given the potential life threatening effects of gum disease, it is very important to maintain regular dental exams and cleanings. Your dental professional will provide periodic screenings for gum disease. If the presence of gum disease is detected, either non-surgical or surgical gum disease treatment will be provided to address and control the disease. There is no cure for periodontal disease. We must treat this condition and maintain your oral health to prevent the progression of periodontal disease.
