Patients often ask this question at their consultation appointment. A panoramic x-ray or full-mouth series of x-rays (FMX) gives us a 2D view of your teeth and surrounding bone. A 3D cone beam CT (CBCT) scan gives us a more detailed view of your teeth and jawbone, allowing us to evaluate the height, width, and shape of your bone and better understand the surrounding anatomy from multiple angles.
