A denturist is the only professional educated and legislated "exclusively" to serve individuals with removable dental prosthetics. The denturist's entire required curriculum of study focuses on the oral health of those individuals needing a dental prosthetic and the actual fabrication of that appliance. Denturists are not dentists however, they are similar in that both are dental healthcare provid
ers. Education standards are similar when comparing the sciences in order to serve a patient with a removable dental appliance; however, the denturist's education includes the technical skills necessary to actually construct and serve the patient with a removable dental appliance. This proves very efficient and beneficial to the patient in that there is no necessary outsourcing; the appliance is actually made by the denturists or in his/her facility, whereas, a dentist most often would outsource the impression to a laboratory; many dental laboratories are outside the United States. Unfortunately, there are areas where denturists are not available to citizens in need of the expert services they provide. The National Denturist Association, USA exists to raise public awareness of the denturist association, to be the focal point of communication and to address unjust legal restrictions on the profession. This injustice affects, not only the professional denturist, but also those individuals who could greatly benefit from denturists services.
