If you have suffered from Salivary Gland Stones or "Sialolithiois", I have come to conclusion concerning sialolith formation. A newer area of study is concerning Oxalate ingestion with the concurrent formation of Oxalate crystals (mineralized Oxalate) within the body which is already documented in a major role in "kidney stones" but also in patients that seem to accumulate heavy dental calculus buildup between periodic dental hygiene exams.
Currently, it is difficult to monitor Oxalate in the body either via blood or urine or saliva. A current article in GENERAL DENTISTRY does associate sialolithiosis with nephrolithiasis (kidney stones), hence; pointing the finger at excess Oxalate as a potential etiology. Ionic Oxalate (Oxalic Acid/Ethanedioic Acid) is not degraded by cooking and is being consumed year around due to the non-seasonality of many fruits and vegetables. 85% of 50+year olds have Oxalate crystals in our thymus and may be associated with breast cancer in the Ionic form even though Oxalate Crystals are dismissed as harmful. 125mg/Day is considered "SAFE" but easily surpassed by "healthy" eating as it can cause gut/digestive problems as it is absorbed into the blood stream depending on the "load" during a meal. Foods to avoid (not extensive): spinach, peanuts, all potatoes, celery, Almonds, Cashews, Sesame Seeds, Chocolate, Black/Green Tea, Cumin Root, Cinnamon, and these are just SOME of the common foods!
