Timing matters in orthodontics — especially when we are trying to improve a child’s bite, jaw relationship, and facial profile while they are still growing.
We wanted to share this beautiful before-and-after case showing the importance of early monitoring and choosing the right time to begin treatment.
This patient had a significant Class II bite, a deep traumatic bite, protrusive upper teeth, increased overjet, and a recessed lower jaw/chin profile. We had been monitoring her growth for several years, and although a functional appliance was initially recommended, compliance was difficult. Once the timing was right, comprehensive orthodontic treatment was started and used her remaining growth to help improve the bite and facial balance.
The result is a much healthier bite, improved lip competence, better lower lip posture, and a noticeably improved facial profile — all without removing permanent teeth.
You can also appreciate how growth played an important role in the final result. In growing patients, we can sometimes guide the bite and facial development in a way that may reduce the need for extractions or more invasive treatment later.
The patient and family were extremely happy with the outcome, and we are proud to be part of her smile transformation.
If your child has a large overjet, deep bite, recessed chin, or you are concerned about their facial profile, early orthodontic evaluation is very important.
