It's Diabetes Awareness Month!

DID YOU KNOW

Getting regular dental cleanings and exams can keep your diabetes under control. Be sure to tell your dentist:
1. that you have diabetes
2. about your blood sugar levels
3. the names of all your prescriptions and over the counter medications
4. your A1C

We'd like to wish everyone a safe and happy Halloween!

Tips for a healthier Halloween!
1. Don't snack on your sweets all day long. Constant carbs and sugars will leave your enamel in a softened state putting you at higher risk for decay. Instead, try picking a few pieces and eating them in one sitting.

2. Go sugar free. There are great sugar free alternatives to satisfy your sweet tooth! Many sugar free options contain xylitol which reduces bacteria and promotes tooth remineralization.

3. Don't forget to brush and floss. It's important to keep up with your oral hygiene routine, especially after all the sticky, sugary candy!

In honor of National Dental Hygiene Month, we'd like to introduce you to one of our dental hygienists here at Gennatos Family Dentistry.

This week's hygiene spotlight is on Hannah Hansen. Hannah is our newest member of the team! She graduated last May from Iowa Central Community College with a degree in Applied Sciences in Dental Hygiene. As a native of Sac City, Hannah chose to live and work close to home after college to be close to her family and friends. In her free time, Hannah loves playing with her new puppy, Murphy, and shopping at local boutiques in Sac County.

Hannah has worked hard through school and her first couple months as a registered dental hygienist to expand her knowledge and skills in the dental field. She is trained in caries and periodontal prevention and education, local anesthesia, radiography, and laser treatment. Hannah always comes to work with a smile and loves getting to know her new patients. Her friendly demeanor and positive attitude have been a great addition to our office!

Happy National Dental Hygiene Month to our two wonderful dental hygienists, Hannah and Savanna! Dental hygiene is so much more than "just cleaning teeth." Our hygienists work hard to prevent and educate patients on decay and periodontal disease. So thank your dental hygienists for all that they do!

Last week we celebrated Dr. Fotene Gennatos' birthday! In honor of her special day, we'd like to share a bit about her with you.

Dr. Gennatos graduated from the University of Iowa School of Dentistry in 2004. She is a native of Sioux City where she lives part time with her 2 corgis, Penny and Archie, and her cat Gustav.

Recently got into corgi racing with her dogs
Favorite order at the coffee shop is an Americano
