A common cause of periodontal abscesses is a popcorn kernel that gets stuck in the gingival sulcus around the teeth, as experienced here by our young patient Alen.
If caught early, the only treatment needed is to remove the offending kernel. This can be done by yourself or by your friendly neighborhood dentist or dental hygienist. If it is allowed to stay in place for too long however, it can lead to a serious gum infection that may require more involved treatment modalities.
Enjoy popcorn responsibly. Brush and floss regularly. Visit your dentist.
