A 2024 meta-analysis in World Journal of Clinical Cases finds a bidirectional association between gum disease and chronic kidney disease.

Source: Yang et al., World J Clin Cases 2024. Gum disease came with about 1.5 times the risk of kidney disease, and kidney patients had about twice the odds of gum disease.
