Dr. Vanessa Phan recently spent 2 weeks with us learning digital lab technology.

Her introduction to this subject began with data acquisition using both desktop and intraoral scanners. Dr. Phan used the acquired data to create 2 ortho capture documents from intraoral scans.

She used the model builder to create 3 sets of 3D printed diagnostic models generated from intraoral scans.

She merged DICOM and .stl files to design 3 surgical guides and successfully printed 3 surgical guides for single tooth implants.

Dr. Phan designed, milled, sintered, stained and glazed 6 full contour zirconium restorations, 3 of which were delivered while she was in the clinic.

She designed 18 units of PMMA provisional restorations, and designed 7 additional printed provisional crowns.

Congratulations Dr. Phan!!

This week in the office, Dr. Garrett Lipsey digitally planned and executed a fully guided implant surgery. At the beginning of the week, Dr. Lipsey began with a 3D diagnosis and created a treatment plan. Dr. Lipsey then designed and printed a surgical guide. Today, Dr. Lipsey, with Dr. Gibney as surgical assistant, used the surgical guide to place 5 implants.

It was a great week at the office with our young colleague!

Tonight began the second semester of the Jacksonville University‘s Comprehensive Oral Implantology Residency Program. I am teaching “Digital Lab Technology” to the inaugural class for the next 15 weeks.
