"Your child needs a tooth pulled" and just like that, your mind goes to the worst place.

Will it hurt? Will they be traumatized? What happens to the space it leaves behind? Nobody hands you a guide for this moment. You're supposed to just trust the process and figure it out.

So we made you the guide.

This carousel covers everything your dentist doesn't always have time to explain in the chair: why the tooth needs to come out, what your child will actually feel (pressure not pain), how to talk to them beforehand without making it worse, how to care for them in the 48 hours after, and the one question most parents forget to ask what happens to the gap.

Your teen says their mouth hurts in the back and you can't see anything wrong.

No cavity. No swelling. No obvious reason. But the pain is real, and it keeps coming back.

Here's what's likely happening: a permanent tooth is trying to come in, but a flap of gum tissue is sitting right on top of it, trapping it. Every time they chew, that flap gets irritated. That's called pericoronitis and it's one of the most common reasons teens and tweens show up at our office in pain.

The fix? An operculectomy and before that word scares you the way "pulpotomy" did, here's what it actually means: Dr. Perez uses a soft tissue laser to gently remove that small flap of gum in just a few minutes. No scalpels. No stitches. No recovery week on the couch.

Your teen walks in uncomfortable. They walk out relieved.

Swipe through to see exactly what's happening inside the mouth and how we fix it. ➡️

Save this if your teen has been complaining about back-of-mouth pain, this is exactly what you need to read first.

Your child's dentist just said "pulpotomy" and your stomach dropped.

We get it. That word sounds intense. It sounds like something that's going to hurt, take forever, and leave your child traumatized.
It's none of those things.

A pulpotomy is how we save a baby tooth that's been reached by a deep cavity before the infection spreads, before the pain gets worse, and before a simple fix turns into a complex one. Think of it as removing just the part of the tooth that's in trouble, while keeping the healthy root completely intact.

And baby teeth? They matter more than most parents realize. They hold the space for the permanent teeth growing underneath. Lose one too early and you're looking at shifting teeth, crowding, and orthodontic issues down the road.

At HCC Dentistry, Dr. Perez walks your child through every single step in words they understand, at a pace they can handle. No rushing. No surprises.

Swipe through to understand exactly what happens, why we do it, and why saving that tooth is always worth it. ➡️

White spots on your child's teeth aren't always what you think. 🦷

Most parents assume it's a calcium deficiency. Or just genetics. So they ignore it and that's exactly when a small, fixable problem becomes a cavity.

Those white spots are called white spot lesions and they're actually the earliest sign of tooth decay. The enamel is starting to lose minerals before a hole ever forms. The good news? At that stage, it can be reversed without a single drill.

That's exactly what Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) and ICON resin infiltration do they stop the damage in its tracks and restore the mineral balance in the enamel. No shots. No drilling. No tears.

The window to act painlessly is small. Once that white spot turns brown or develops into a cavity, the options change.

If you've noticed white spots on your child's teeth, don't wait for the next cleaning. Book an evaluation link in bio.

Save this post white spot lesions are more common than most parents realize, and knowing this early makes all the difference. ❤️
