Summer has officially arrived! As a reminder, now is an excellent time to schedule a dental appointment for your child or teen. It’s easier to get them in to see us since they aren’t in school! If it’s been six months since their last visit, give us a call to schedule a check-up!

Somewhere between the ages of 17 and 21, most young adults experience the eruption of their third molars (also known as wisdom teeth).

If wisdom teeth come in properly and there’s room for them in your mouth, they can help you chew. But crowded or partially-erupted wisdom teeth can lead to pain, infections, tooth decay, and cysts, in which case it’s best to have them removed for your own comfort and safety.

If you do wind up keeping your wisdom teeth past your mid to late twenties, we’ll continue to monitor them to make sure they don’t cause problems down the road.

People who floss regularly benefit from healthier teeth and gums, fewer cavities, and fresher breath. It’s easy to make flossing a regular habit and it doesn’t always have to be done at bedtime, just once per day. Floss while watching TV or listening to music, or even in the shower!

Dentures tend to wear down over time, especially if you've had them for a while. As your soft tissues change, your dentures may not fit as well as they did. Luckily, they’re made from acrylic resin, so they’re almost always repairable.

We’re able to give your dentures a complete tune-up — repairing cracks and fractures, or relining areas to make them fit more comfortably.

If your dentures could use a bit of revitalizing, just call (775) 356-8254.

After getting their wisdom teeth removed, most people fully recover from wisdom teeth removal in 3-4 days. In rare cases, recovery can take a week or more. While we will provide you with detailed guidelines for your particular situation, here are some general tips to help.
Try to eat soft foods like pasta, pudding, smoothies, or soup, making sure it’s not too hot. Drink plenty of fluids and avoid strenuous activity. Rinse your mouth gently with salt water as directed, and don’t start brushing your teeth until the second day. Use an ice pack on your face and take any medications as prescribed to ease pain or swelling. Try to avoid drinking through a straw and don’t eat hard, crunchy, or sticky foods. Finally, avoid smoking because it can slow healing.
Following these simple guidelines will ensure you’re taking the best care of yourself during recovery. If you have any other questions or concerns, please get in touch!

Orthodontics isn’t the only route to straight teeth. Veneers can correct minor misalignments by making crooked teeth appear straighter. Ask us if this is an option for your smile.

A properly fitted sports guard can protect your teeth from serious injuries, but unfortunately, not everyone understands the difference between a custom sports guard from a dentist and a boil-and-bite variety from a drugstore.

A custom sports guard is made to fit your teeth exactly, cushioning them comfortably and protecting them from impact.
Because boil-and-bite sports guards are made with thinner materials and don’t fit snugly to the teeth, they leave athletes more exposed to potential injuries.

There’s no question in this comparison — custom sports guards will win every time! Give us a call if you’re curious about the process or would like to have one made.

Tooth contouring is a gentle and pain-free procedure that alters the shape or length of a tooth. We remove a tiny amount of tooth enamel with a laser or a drill and sculpt a more pleasing shape. The tooth is then polished for a smooth finish. This simple procedure is pain-free and won’t cost an arm and a leg. Contact us at (775) 356-8254 about tooth contouring today and smile with confidence!

Got a toothache? Here are a few things you can try to get some relief from the pain while you wait to see your dentist.

Try rinsing your mouth with warm water and flossing between your teeth to dislodge any food particles that may be causing the discomfort. If the tooth has been injured, try applying a cold compress on your face near the area. You may also get relief with over-the-counter pain medications taken as directed. Do NOT place aspirin directly on the tooth or gum as it will cause a chemical burn and will not help your toothache.

Call us right away at (775) 356-8254 if you develop any of these symptoms: the toothache becomes more severe, there are signs of infection such as inflammation, swelling, and redness in the area, you develop a fever, or you have trouble breathing or swallowing.

Did you know we accept new patients of all ages?

We love working with children and setting them on the right path for a lifetime of excellent oral hygiene. We love chatting with kids and teens about their favorite video games (even if we haven’t heard of them). And we love sitting down to catch up with our adult patients — it’s almost like a social call.

As always, we’re so appreciative when you refer your friends, neighbors, and colleagues to us when they’re looking for a new dental practice. Thank you!
