Hi, I’m Dr. Doug, and I’m excited to welcome you to Blue Star Family Dentistry in South Haven, MI! 🦷

I currently live in Holland, MI, with my wife and our dog, and we’re excited to welcome our first little one in March of 2027! I grew up spending summers in Saugatuck and Douglas, so I’ve always had a special connection to West Michigan, Lake Michigan, and everything this area has to offer.

I’m a University of Michigan graduate and earned my dental degree from Temple University’s Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry in Philadelphia. I’m also a huge Michigan and Lions fan!

I’m honored to take over the practice from Dr. Norman Maly and want to wish him a wonderful and very well deserved retirement. I’m excited to continue the tradition of providing exceptional dental care to the South Haven community, alongside our dedicated team and can’t wait to meet you all!

A New Chapter for Our Practice

Dear Patients and Friends, I am pleased to introduce you to Dr. Doug Schultz, "Dr. Doug", who will be taking over the practice and continuing to care for our patients with all our existing staff.
Choosing the right person to entrust with the practice was extremely important to me. I am confident that Dr. Doug will provide the same high level of professional, compassionate, and personalized care that you have come to expect.
Dr. Doug shares my commitment to treating patients with respect, listening carefully to their concerns, and providing quality dental care in a welcoming environment.
Dr. Doug is coming to us from Holland as a graduate of University of Michigan and Temple University's Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry. He comes in with a high aptitude in general dentistry and patient comfort and is excited to have the opportunity to meet and take care of you.
He is an avid Wolverine and always appreciates a good "go blue".
I hope you will welcome Dr. Doug as warmly as you have welcomed me over the years. I am confident that the practice is in very good hands, and I look forward to knowing that you will continue to receive excellent care.

A Heartfelt Farewell
After 35 wonderful years in dentistry, I have made the decision to retire from my dental practice.
It is difficult to put into words what these years have meant to me. Being your dentist has been so much more than a profession—it has been a privilege. I have had the honor of caring for generations of families, sharing your joys, hardships, milestones, and getting to know so many of you personally along the way in our wonderful community of South Haven.
I am incredibly grateful for the trust you placed in me and for allowing me to care for you and your families. The relationships I have built with my patients are among the greatest rewards of my career, and I will treasure those memories for years to come.
I also want to express my heartfelt appreciation to the wonderful staff I've had through the years. Their dedication, compassion, professionalism, and friendship have made this journey possible and have been an essential part of providing the quality of care you deserve. I could not have asked for a better team, and I am enormously grateful for all they have done.
As I begin this next chapter, I look forward to spending more time with family and friends, enjoying new adventures, and embracing the opportunities that retirement will bring. Still, leaving a profession in a community that has been such an important part of my life is certainly bittersweet.
To the patients who have walked through my doors: thank you. Thank you for your trust, your kindness, your stories, your laughter, and for allowing me to be a small part of your lives.
I leave dentistry with a grateful heart.❤️
