SFOT stands for Surgically assisted Orthodontic Therapy. It is a surgical technique which augments both hard and soft tissue prior to orthodontics therapy.  The primary goal is to increase the thickness of the bone and tissue, permanently, so that the periodontium remains in good health, minimizing post -ortho complications such as recession and relapse. SFOT is particularly beneficial for adults who would like to expedite their treatment, as it allows teeth to move very fast, and who exhibit crowding and need jaw expansion. It decreases the need for teeth to be extracted preceding ortho.

The subepithelial connective tissue graft is a type of Periodontal Plastic Surgical Procedure with tremendous functional and aesthetic benefits. The purpose of the procedure is to increase the zone of healthy, attached tissue which protects our teeth from infection, it also prevents our roots from developing cavities, and reduces tooth sensitivity. Thick tissue is the goal!
