Dyson launched a $499 AI-powered toothbrush yesterday with a built-in camera that live streams the inside of your mouth while you brush and shoots mouthwash between your teeth. 👀

Dr. Cooper's honest take? The technology is next level and the price tag is wild.

Here is the thing. The reason most people have gum issues or buildup between their teeth is not a lack of sophisticated equipment. It is habits, consistency, and not coming in often enough for someone trained to spot problems to actually look. A $499 toothbrush will not change what it cannot see past the surface, and it definitely cannot replace a hygienist who has been paying close attention to your mouth for years!

The great toothbrush debate: cover or no cover? 🪥

Team cover says it keeps bacteria off the bristles, which is fair. Team no cover says trapping moisture in a closed cap is actually worse because bacteria thrive in damp environments. 🫣 Also a fair point.

If you're asking us, your toothbrush needs air. A cover that traps moisture can create exactly the kind of environment you are trying to avoid and the better move is letting it air dry upright and replacing it every three months, or after you have been sick. Whichever comes first!

There is actually a right answer here and it might surprise you. 👇

Brushing before breakfast is the better move. It clears away the bacteria that built up overnight and gives your enamel a layer of protection before coffee or anything acidic hits it. If you do brush after eating, just wait a bit first, especially after orange juice or anything acidic. Brushing too soon after means scrubbing enamel while it is temporarily softened, which works against you.

What catches people off guard is that small dental problems almost never hurt. They just quietly get worse until one day something feels off and by that point, the conversation is usually a little more involved.
