🦷 FAQ Friday!

Q: If my dentist says they’re going to “watch” a cavity, what does that mean? Can a cavity go away on its own?

A: When your dentist says they want to “watch” a cavity, it usually means the area is small or very early, and they want to monitor it rather than treat it right away.

But here’s the important part: a true cavity that has progressed into the tooth generally does not heal itself. However, very early tooth decay can sometimes be stopped or even reversed before a true cavity forms, especially with good oral hygiene and fluoride.

That’s why your dentist may recommend monitoring a small area instead of immediately placing a filling. At future visits, they’ll check to see whether it has stayed the same or progressed.

So if your dentist says, “We’re going to watch it,” don’t panic—but don’t forget about it either! Regular checkups help your dentist catch changes before they become a bigger problem. 🪥✨

FAQ Friday! 💭

Q: Can a dentist tell if I grind my teeth?

A: Often, yes! During a routine exam, your dentist can look for signs that may indicate you’re grinding or clenching your teeth, including:

🦷 Worn-down biting surfaces
🦷 Chipped, cracked, or fractured enamel
🦷 Increased tooth sensitivity from exposed dentin
🦷 Indentations or a white line on the inside of your cheeks from biting or clenching
🦷 Tender, tight, or enlarged jaw muscles

The good news? You don’t have to just live with the effects of grinding.

A custom mouthguard can help protect your teeth and reduce the effects of nighttime grinding. And if your teeth have already been damaged, your dentist may be able to restore their normal shape and function with treatments such as crowns, overlays, or bonding.

Think you might be grinding your teeth? Bring it up at your next dental visit! 🦷✨

Maybe life got busy. Maybe you’ve been nervous. Maybe you’ve had a difficult experience in the past. Whatever the reason, there’s no judgment here.

You don’t have to have perfect teeth, and you don’t have to apologize for where you are today.

Our job is simply to meet you where you are, listen to your concerns, and help you move forward—one step at a time.

If you’ve been putting off that appointment, consider this your sign. We’d love to see you. 🦷✨

If you've been putting off treatment because you're unsure what to expect, we're always happy to answer your questions and help you feel at ease. A small filling today can often prevent a much larger dental problem tomorrow!
