💐🦷 Happy National Daughters Day! 💐🦷

As a dentist, Dr. Firmage has spent years making smiles brighter—but nothing compares to the five smiles that light up his life every single day.

Each one of them inspires the office in a different way—whether it’s their determination, their kindness, their humor, or the way they light up every room they enter. They’ve made him a better parent, a better person, and even a better dentist because they’ve taught him the value of patience, compassion, and joy.

To his girls—thank you for filling our days with endless reasons to smile. 💕

🌟 What an amazing day in our community! 🌟

This past weekend, our team from Gray Oak Family Dental had the privilege of participating in The Sherman Arts Fest. It was such a joy to connect with families, share smiles, and spread the word about the importance of good oral health. 🦷✨

🥇Dr. Firmage even won the Masters Division of the 5k!

We loved seeing so many familiar faces (and meeting new ones, too!). Events like this remind us why we love being part of this community—because together, we can make a difference. 💙

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, asked questions, grabbed some goodies, and shared your smiles with us.

📸 Check out a few snapshots from the event—we hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed the day!

Thumb sucking is a natural reflex in babies and young children. It helps them feel secure and relaxed, especially during sleep or stressful situations. But when this habit continues beyond the age of 4–5, especially after the primary (baby) teeth have come in, it can start causing serious dental problems.

The repeated pressure of the thumb on the roof of the mouth and front teeth can interfere with the normal growth of the jaw and the alignment of teeth. Over time, this can lead to an open bite (where the upper and lower teeth don’t meet properly), protruding front teeth, and even changes in how a child chews, speaks, and breathes.

If not stopped early, prolonged thumb sucking can create problems that require orthodontic treatment like braces—or in severe cases, jaw correction. Some children may also develop tongue thrusting habits or speech difficulties as a result.

👉 The earlier the habit is addressed, the easier it is to prevent lasting damage. Positive reinforcement, gentle reminders, and dentist-guided strategies can help children let go of thumb sucking in a healthy way.

🦷 Healthy habits early in life help shape a confident smile, proper jaw growth, and better overall oral health.

🍼🦷 Bedtime bottles may soothe your baby—but they can silently harm their smile.

Letting your child fall asleep with milk in their mouth allows natural sugars to linger on their teeth. During sleep, saliva flow slows down, and that sugary coating becomes fuel for bacteria. The result?
⚠️ Acid attacks on enamel
⚠️ Early decay—especially in the upper front teeth
⚠️ Pain, infection, and future issues with speech or eating

This condition is called nursing bottle caries, and it can happen even if your baby only has a few teeth.

✅ Avoid bedtime bottles of milk
✅ Clean your child’s teeth or gums before bed
✅ Start healthy habits early

A few small changes today can protect their smile for life. 💙

🦷🔥 Tooth sensitivity is more than just an annoyance—it’s a warning.

Deep inside every tooth is the pulp, a soft center filled with nerves and blood vessels that keep the tooth alive. These nerves are super sensitive—they react to:
🥶 Cold
🔥 Heat
🍬 Sweets
💢 Pressure

When a cavity gets too close to the pulp, it can cause sharp pain or sensitivity. That’s your tooth’s way of saying: "Something’s wrong!"

🚫 Ignoring it can lead to infection or the need for a root canal.
✅ Catching cavities early protects the pulp and helps you avoid more serious treatment.

Listen to your teeth—they're trying to protect you!

🧠🦷 Healthy gums, healthy brain? New research says yes.

Studies now show a potential link between gum disease and Alzheimer’s disease. Harmful bacteria like Porphyromonas gingivalis—a key player in periodontitis—can enter the bloodstream through inflamed gums and reach the brain. There, they may:
🧪 Trigger inflammation
🧠 Contribute to amyloid-beta buildup (a hallmark of Alzheimer’s)

Researchers found signs of these bacteria in brain tissue of Alzheimer’s patients—and animal studies confirmed their impact on brain health.

This is a powerful reminder that oral care isn’t just about your mouth—it could be key to protecting your memory and long-term brain function.

✅ Brush and floss daily
✅ Treat gum disease early
✅ Don’t skip dental visits

Your smile might be doing more for you than you ever imagined.

💪🦷 Your bite is stronger than you think—thanks to the masseter muscle!

Located on the side of your jaw, the masseter is one of the strongest muscles in the body in terms of force. It can generate up to 600 psi—enough to crack a walnut or even bend a metal fork! 🥜🍴

This powerhouse muscle helps you chew and grind food efficiently, but overuse (like clenching or grinding) can lead to:
😣 Jaw pain
😬 TMJ issues
🦷 Tooth wear

Here's some tips to avoid these issues:
✅ Avoid chewing ice or hard objects
✅ Practice stress-reducing habits
✅ Get checked if you notice jaw tension or grinding

Your masseter is mighty—treat it with care for a healthy, balanced bite!
