🦷 When a “bony bump” becomes part of the solution!
This gum grafting case had several challenges: gum recession on a molar, significant exostosis (bony prominence), and a deep abrasion caused by traumatic brushing. The tooth was also positioned slightly outside the normal arch, making it more vulnerable to aggressive brushing.
The anatomy made this case especially challenging. When preparing the recipient site for the graft, there was very little room to work with, and the tissue could easily be perforated.
✨ But sometimes, the anatomy that makes a case difficult can also become part of the solution!
In this case, the exostosis helped provide stability for the graft, allowing us to position it precisely around the tooth neck and build up a healthy, thicker band of gum tissue.
📸 Just 1 month later:
The graft healed beautifully, with significant root coverage and excellent thickening of the gum tissue, covering most of the previous abrasion area.
Every gum grafting case is different. Understanding the anatomy, planning precisely, and using the right surgical technique can make all the difference.
