It is with a very heavy heart and many tears as I write this post to share the news of the passing of an extraordinary woman and dear friend, Dr. Sandra J. Lilo, who passed away Wednesday.
Sandra was truly one of those rare people who devoted her life to making a difference in the lives of others. Her legacy of service reached far beyond our community and even beyond our country. From her military service, to building a successful dental practice, to her many years of dedication to Seminole Lake Rotary, Sandra continually found ways to give of herself and serve others.
What stood out most about Sandra was her generous heart. She gave her time, her talents, and her compassion freely. She served people here at home and traveled internationally to provide volunteer dental and humanitarian work, helping improve the lives of people who were in need. She never seemed to ask what she would receive in return, only what she could do to help.
I am deeply grateful that our paths crossed and that I had the privilege of knowing Sandra and calling her my friend. I will remember her not only for all that she accomplished, but for her taking a chance on a small town girl from Tennessee when she hired me at the dental practice.
Her passing leaves a tremendous void for her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. But the impact she made will live on through the countless people she helped and the many lives she made better.
Rest peacefully, Sandra. You gave so much of yourself to others. Your friendship was a gift, your service was an inspiration, and your memory will be cherished. You will be deeply missed.
