Yep but I brighten your smile!
I don’t hate social media. In fact, I’m incredibly grateful for what it has done for my business.
But sometimes… I’m tired of what owning a business in the social media era has become.
Somewhere along the way, simply being really good at your craft stopped feeling like enough.
Now, while I’m working, there’s this little voice in the back of my head:
Did I take a before picture?
Did I get the after?
I should probably film this.
I haven’t made a Reel this week.
Apparently this audio is trending.
People want more behind-the-scenes.
Show your face more.
Post more.
Engage more.
Be consistent.
And sometimes I just want to say…
Can I just do really good brows today? 😂
Because the truth is, after 15 years in the beauty industry, thousands of permanent makeup clients, 75+ trainings and certifications, and years of continuing to learn and teach this craft, I STILL genuinely love what I do.
I love sitting down with a client and figuring out exactly what will work for her.
Her face.
Her skin.
Her bone structure.
Her lifestyle.
Her style.
Her expectations.
I love creating soft, natural brows that you’d never guess were permanent makeup.
I love a beautiful powder brow.
I love the tiny details of nano brows.
I love watching a lip color completely bring someone’s face to life.
I love teaching other artists and passing along everything I’ve learned through years of experience, mistakes, education and thousands of procedures.
THAT is where I want my energy to go.
Not figuring out which trending audio the algorithm wants me to use this week.
And if I’m being completely transparent, I think social media has also created some unrealistic expectations in the beauty industry.
Perfect models.
Perfect skin.
Perfect lighting.
Perfect angles.
Perfectly edited results.
But my clients are real women.
Real skin. Real pores. Real asymmetry. Previous permanent makeup. Scars. Sparse brows. Oily skin. Mature skin. Difficult skin. Different face shapes, ages, styles and expectations.
And THAT is the work I’m proud of.
I don’t want every person who walks through my door to leave with the same Instagram brow.
I want them to leave with their brow.
Social media also has a funny way of making us all feel like we have to do the exact same thing.
Same trending song.
Same transition.
Same poses.
Same editing.
Same aesthetic.
Same captions.
And meanwhile I’m over here thinking…
What happened to just being original?
Sometimes I want to use a song because I LIKE THE SONG. 😂
Sometimes I want to post a simple before and after because the work speaks for itself.
Sometimes I don’t get the perfect picture because I was too busy talking to my client.
Sometimes I don’t film the appointment because I was actually present for the appointment.
And sometimes I may go quiet on social media.
But please don’t mistake quiet for not caring about my business.
Usually, it’s the exact opposite.
I’m probably busy running it.
Busy seeing 5–9 clients in a day.
Busy answering questions.
Busy consulting.
Busy teaching.
Busy continuing my education.
Busy being a wife and a mama.
Busy living an actual life outside of a screen.
Plum Crazy Esthetics wasn’t built on trending audio.
It wasn’t built on perfectly curated Reels.
It was built one client at a time.
On experience.
Education.
Consistency.
Trust.
Word of mouth.
And genuinely caring about the face sitting in front of me.
Social media is a wonderful tool, and I’ll keep sharing my work here.
But I’m reminding myself that my job is not to be a content creator who happens to do permanent makeup.
I’m a permanent makeup artist who happens to create content.
And there’s a BIG difference.
So if I disappear for a few days, don’t worry.
I’m probably exactly where I’m supposed to be
behind my machine, doing what I actually love. 🖤
