Technology and Aligner Therapy in the Dental and Orthodontic Practice
Presented by: Dr. Michael Feinberg and Dr. Tal Masserman

This course will focus on the practical application of technology in the delivery of orthodontic tooth movement and correction of malocclusions. We will review how technology can be integrated into routine orthodontic procedures, how to navigate Clincheck and Suresmile software, and how to properly select cases for aligner treatment. Simple and complex aligner and combination cases (braces and aligner) will be presented and discussed. We will also review how an in-house lab can be a practical addition to the dental / orthodontic office.

Learning Objectives:
Improve understanding of proper case selection for aligner therapy.
Achieve familiarity with Clincheck and Suresmile aligner software.
Achieve familiarity with in-house aligner design and fabrication.

Dr. Michael Feinberg is a proud graduate of the University of California at San Francisco School of Dentistry, where he received his DDS (2000), MS and Certificate in Orthodontics (2003) and served as an adjunct faculty from 2003-2005. He entered private practice in 2003 in Berkeley and Oakland, CA. In 2005 he moved to Scottsdale, AZ and joined Affiliated Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and has served in leadership positions in local, state and national levels of organized dentistry and orthodontics since entering private practice upon graduation. Dr. Feinberg started utilizing Invisalign during his residency and was certified as a provider in 2003. He has dedicated himself to mastering digital treatments and workflow to maximize clinical efficiency, patient experience and outcome. He utilizes in-house and Invisalign aligner therapy daily in orthodontic practice . His claim to fame is having been the first orthodontist to have passed the ABO clinical exam utilizing cases all treated with robotically bent wires.

Dr. Tal Masserman received his DDS degree from the University of California Los Angeles School of Dentistry and his Certificate in Orthodontics from Montefiore Medical Center. Upon completion of his orthodontic residency program in New York, he joined the team of dentists at Affiliated Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics in Scottsdale, Arizona. Dr. Masserman is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. His focus in private practice has been on the implementation and utilization of state-of-the-art digital technology in order to achieve predictable clinical outcomes with enhanced treatment efficiency. He has held numerous leadership positions at the local and state levels for institutions of orthodontics, organized dentistry, and philanthropy.

Putting on Your Oxygen Mask First
Self Care, Mental Health Tips, and Managing Workplace Stress
In this session, author, standup comic, and mental health specialist Joshua Rivedal will discuss the importance of how to be healthier helpers at work while investing in our own mental health and self-care. Rivedal will discuss recognizing and helping patients and colleagues in distress, including: risk factors, signs and symptoms of suicidal thinking, and how to deescalate and intervene if a patient or colleague is in emotional crisis or expressing signs of distress. Rivedal will also discuss some basics of workplace mental health, coping and stress management strategies, how to cultivate resilience, change management, and tips for self-care. The session will integrate storytelling, light standup comedy, discussion and will also end with a Q&A between Rivedal and attendees.
As a result of Rivedal’s session, attendees will learn:
Tips for self-care
The basics of mental health and mental illness (and how to cope)
Stress management strategies
How to intervene effectively if a patient or colleague is experiencing difficulty, crisis, or severe emotional distress
Josh Rivedal:
Joshua Rivedal is the creator and founder of Changing Minds: A Mental Health Based Curriculum and The i’Mpossible Project. He has a bachelor’s degree in organizational psychology, is trained in community counseling from the Southern California Counseling Center; human capital management with an emphasis in coaching from NYU; and the teacher’s edition of emotional intelligence at Yale University’s Center for Emotional Intelligence. He has spoken about su***de prevention, mental health, and workplace mental health across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Australia. His original coursework on su***de prevention is taught in Washington State to various professions such as dentists, pharmacists, and occupational therapists. He wrote and developed the one-man play, Kicking My Blue Genes in The Butt, which has toured extensively throughout the world paired with su***de prevention education. His memoir The Gospel According to Josh: A 28-Year Gentile Bar Mitzvah is on The American Foundation for Su***de Prevention’s recommended reading list. His second book, The i’Mpossible Project: Volume 1—Reengaging with Life, Creating a New You, debuted #1 in its category on Amazon in January 2016. There are currently five books in the i’Mpossible Project series. He is a co-author of three journal papers, one on the trajectory of the survivor of su***de loss, another on the art of living with chronic illness, the third on surviving trauma. He has a certificate in food, nutrition, and health from Community College of Philadelphia. Joshua practices Taekwondo and achieved the rank of 1st degree black belt. He is a standup comic and cook, and lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Visited, interviewed, and photographed Saint Vincent de Paul's (SVdP) Assistant Dental Director Dr. Betzanahy Leyva yesterday.

She started out as a volunteer at SVdP years ago, moved up to dental assistant, attended and graduated from MWU/Glendale, came back to SVdP as a staff dentist, and was promoted to dental director.
