Dr. Coppola is beginning his 𝟰𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆—and his favorite parts of the job remain the same: caring for healthy smiles and watching generations of local families grow.

After more than 20 years as an integral part of our team, Kelli has retired. 🤍

For so many of our patients, Kelli was much more than the hygienist they saw for their appointments. Over the years, she built genuine relationships with the people and families she cared for, and that is something we will always value.

Kelli provided exceptional care with dedication, professionalism, and kindness, and she will be deeply missed by all of us.

I’m incredibly grateful for Kelli’s commitment to our practice and to our patients over the past two decades. We wish Kelli and her husband, John all the very best as they enjoy this next chapter together.

𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗫-𝗿𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁?

Not necessarily—and that is a good thing.

Dental X-rays are not one-size-fits-all. We consider your current symptoms, dental and medical history, cavity and gum-disease risk, previous images and what we see during your examination. That means two patients may appropriately have different X-ray schedules.

Our goal is to obtain the information needed to care for you well while keeping exposure as low as reasonably achievable. If we recommend an X-ray, you are always welcome to ask what we are looking for and how the image may help guide your care.

Modern care is personal care.

𝗔 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲.

Sometimes the discomfort only shows up when you bite down, release your bite, or have something hot or cold. Then it may disappear again, making it easy to put off.

The problem is that a crack can extend deeper over time, especially with continued chewing pressure.

Depending on where the crack is and how far it extends, treatment can vary. Some teeth may only need a restoration or crown, while deeper cracks can sometimes involve the nerve of the tooth or make the tooth more difficult to save.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.

A few signs worth mentioning:

• Pain when chewing or biting
• Sensitivity to hot or cold
• Discomfort that comes and goes
• A tooth that suddenly feels different when you chew
• Pain when releasing your bite

Not every sensitive or sore tooth is cracked, but if something feels different, it is worth having it checked.

As families prepare for another school year, there are a few simple habits that can quietly protect a child’s smile all year long.

Send water as the everyday drink whenever possible.

Try to keep sticky or sugary snacks with meals instead of letting children graze on them throughout the day.

Remind younger children that brushing quickly still counts as quickly—not thoroughly. Two minutes, twice a day, makes a difference.

And for children playing fall sports, make sure their mouthguard still fits. Kids grow quickly, and a guard that fit last season may not provide the same comfort or protection now.

𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗹𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱.

A few consistent habits—water, regular meals and snacks, thorough brushing and proper protection during sports—can go a long way.

Today we’re celebrating Bella—our amazing part-time high school team member and such a bright spot in our afternoons!

Bella recently finished up with us as she gets ready for another busy school year and volleyball season. 🏐 While we’re excited for everything ahead of her, she will certainly be missed around the office!

Bella was always on top of the schedule and somehow knew exactly what needed to be done before anyone even had the chance to ask. No matter the project, she was willing to jump in and handled every detail with incredible care and precision.

Dependable, thoughtful and always ready to help—Bella made a lasting impression on our entire team. We feel very fortunate to have had her with us!

A promise to care for neighbors honestly, compassionately and with the same attention we would give our own family.

Dr. Sam Coppola began this practice here in Scotia, and years later, Dr. David Coppola had the privilege of working beside him and carrying that philosophy forward.

Today, some of the people who once visited Dr. Sam now bring their children, grandchildren—and even great-grandchildren—to our office.

𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵.

One of the most common effects is dry mouth.

Saliva does much more than keep your mouth comfortable. It helps wash away food particles, neutralize acids and protect your teeth throughout the day.

When saliva flow decreases, you may notice:

• A dry or sticky feeling
• Difficulty swallowing certain foods
• Frequent thirst
• Changes in taste
• Cracked lips or mouth irritation
• An increase in cavities or sensitivity
