Smith Dental Specialties Airway orthodontics, Dental Sleep Medicine (sleep apnea & snoring), Craniofacial Pain/TMJ & Tongue ties.

All of our sleep patients are diagnosed in a sleep lab (or with a home sleep test) by a doctor specializing in sleep medicine. Published in 2006, the practice parameters state that oral appliances are indicated for use in patients with mild-moderate OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) who prefer an oral appliance to CPAP, do not respond to CPAP, are not appropriate candidates for CPAP, or do not respond to treatment using behavioral measures, such as weight loss or sleep position changes. At Smith Dental Specialties, we are fully committed to data-driven care. A thorough dental examination will determine if you are a candidate for Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT). If so, we are trained to determine the style of oral appliance that fits your specific treatment needs. Unfortunately, millions of people suffer from the effects of snoring and/or OSA and struggle to find a simple effective option to resolve their problem. Congratulations to Dr. Jackson Smith for his completion of his second Diplomate certification after three years of study.

The American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine tests dentists who treat snoring & obstructive sleep apnea with oral appliance therapy. The ABDSM designation demonstrates to referring physicians, peers & the public that a dentist has the knowledge & skills essential for delivery of excellent patient care. The ABDSM credential is widely recognized as the gold standard in dental sleep medicine.

Dr. Jackson began this endeavor during his last year of NYU Dental school and completed his final step, passing the National Examination, while enrolled in the USC Herman Ostrow College of Dentistry Master of Science program in Orofacial Pain & Oral Medicine where he is expected to graduate late summer, 2027. (And working full-time).

As a sleep specialist, Dr. Jackson gets all this done & still sleeps 9 hours per night! Way to go, Dr. Jackson!

May we also introduce Harshini Vasu Smith. We thoroughly enjoyed more time with the Vasu family and friends. Over 30 days living with each other in the US & India, we learn more & more about Southern Indian culture. We love what we see & feel …the similarities that blend East with West.

Thank you to our staff for sprucing up and working while we were away. We appreciate our patients and referring doctors for understanding and for waiting for us to return.

We just made it back before airspace was closed in the Middle East. We resumed regular business hours today.

Dr Jackson and Harshini are getting married in Hindu custom in Bangalore, Harshini’s home town.
