Baby teeth feel temporary β€” so it's easy to assume they don't matter much. The truth is the opposite.

Those first twenty teeth guide jaw growth, shape speech, and set the pattern for how permanent teeth come in later. What happens in your little one's mouth between birth and age six sets the stage for a lifetime of healthy chewing, clear speech, and confident smiles.

The good news? A few simple habits now can make all the difference.

Today our team spoke at the Board of Supervisors meeting to thank them for recognizing National Health Center Week! πŸ’™

As the county's largest dental provider, Dientes is proud to be part of the healthcare safety net that serves everyone, regardless of income or insurance. Oral health is health, and together with the County we're keeping Santa Cruz a place where everyone can access the care they deserve.

Thank you to our Board of Supervisors for being true partners in a healthier community. And thank you to Salud Para La Gente, Santa Cruz Community Health, Janus of Santa Cruz, Health Improvement Partnership of Santa Cruz County, and more.

Last week our team attended a meet and greet with Christine McSweeney, the new CEO of Dominican Hospital. Welcome to the community, Christine! We look forward to working with you.

We're happy to partner with Dominican and are grateful for their continued support. Being part of a collaborative and supportive healthcare community is what makes Santa Cruz County so special.

Happy Partner Appreciation Day. All week we've celebrated National Health Center Week, and today we're thanking the organizations that stand alongside us.

Patients like Meredith have felt the benefit of a collaborative local health care safety net. Pregnant with her third child, she was getting prenatal care at Santa Cruz Community Health but hadn't seen a dentist in ten years. Her doctors knew untreated oral health problems can raise risks during pregnancy, so they referred her to the Dientes clinic across the campus. We got her in quickly, found an untreated cavity, and gave her the filling she needed then and there. A gap that could have gone ignored got closed, thanks to two partners working side by side.

That's what National Health Center Week is all about. Thank you to every partner building and protecting this safety net with us.

It's National Health Center Week, and we're proud to share a co-authored piece in Lookout Local by the Santa Cruz County Safety Net Clinic Coalition: "The secret to better healthcare in Santa Cruz County isn't just medicine β€” it's partnership." πŸ’™

What makes Santa Cruz County special is how our clinics show up for each other. That shared commitment is how we meet the needs of our vibrant, diverse population.

Give it a read and see how we're stronger together.

As health coverage becomes more uncertain, Santa Cruz County's community health providers are doubling down on what works: partnership, write six healthcare safety net leaders. Everyone deserves quality dental care. Everyone.

On Population Focus Day, we're celebrating the people at the heart of our work. Dientes serves low-income families, patients on Medi-Cal, and neighbors with no insurance at all, from Watsonville to Santa Cruz and every community in between.

Kids and parents. Elders and veterans. Farmworkers and folks experiencing homelessness. We meet each patient where they are and build care around what they actually need. Accessible, welcoming, whole-community care. That's who we are, and that's what National Health Center Week is all about.

More from The Dental Digest Blog: Why Ages 7 to 12 Are the Toughest Years for Teeth

Between the first wiggly tooth and the first day of middle school, your child's mouth turns into a construction zone.

Permanent teeth pushing in. Baby teeth holding on. Roots still forming. And a whole lot of playground energy in the mix. It's no wonder ages 7 to 12 bring more tooth injuries than almost any other stretch of childhood β€” and those teeth are often only half grown in.
School is about to start β€” but there's still time to send your child into fall with a healthy, protected smile. Book your visit now: dientes.org

Your mouth is a window into your whole-body health.

This National Health Center Week, we're spotlighting a truth that too often gets overlooked: oral health and overall health are deeply connected. When we treat a cavity or clear an infection, we're protecting more than a smile.

At Dientes, prevention and early treatment are how we help our patients stay healthy from the inside out, heading off bigger problems down the road. That's what National Health Center Week is all about - caring for the whole person and meeting our neighbors where they are.

National Health Center Week continues, and today is Patient Appreciation Day!

Patients are at the heart of everything we do. This day honors the people who shape how care is delivered and remind us every day why our mission matters. We also celebrate the patient board model β€” a revolutionary approach to governance where patients make up the majority of board members, giving the community a real voice in the health center movement.

To our patients: thank you for trusting us with your smiles. You inspire us, you guide us, and you make Dientes what it is.

It's National Health Center Week! All week long, we're celebrating the community health centers and the people who make accessible care possible.

Today is Health Center Staff Appreciation Day! Community Health Centers thrive because of their dedicated clinical and non-clinical teams, and today we honor every single person whose work makes exceptional patient care possible. At Dientes, our workforce development programs and culture of promoting from within help us nurture a truly outstanding team.

To every member of our Dientes family β€” thank you for showing up with heart, skill, and compassion for the community we serve.
