You’re a dentist on vacation and you can’t just enjoy your wine like a normal person 😄

Red wine is genuinely one of the worst things for your teeth. Acidic. Staining. Dries out your mouth which removes your natural defense against bacteria.

But I’m not giving it up. Obviously.
So here’s what I actually do — and what I tell my patients:
Rinse with water after every glass. Not brush — rinse. Brushing immediately after acidic drinks scrubs the softened enamel away. Water neutralizes the acid and removes the surface staining before it sets.
Simple. Takes 10 seconds. Makes a real difference.

I pulled this tooth today. It didn’t have to come out. 🤍

This patient’s gum disease started silently — the way it always does.

No pain. No obvious warning. Just bleeding gums they assumed were normal.

By the time it hurt — the bone was gone. The tooth couldn’t be saved.

I’m sharing this because I wish more people understood how quietly gum disease works.
It doesn’t announce itself.

It doesn’t hurt until it’s serious. It just slowly destroys the foundation holding your teeth in place.

And the really scary part?
It’s been directly linked to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s. Your mouth isn’t separate from your body. What happens here affects everything.

But here’s what I also want you to know —

Caught early, gum disease is completely treatable. A deep cleaning. More consistent visits. That’s often all it takes to stop it in its tracks.

If your gums bleed when you brush — that’s your sign. Not normal. Not something to ignore.

Please don’t wait until something hurts. By then we’re already playing catch-up.
