💉 Taking a GLP-1? Don’t forget about your mouth. 🦷
GLP-1 medications like Ozempic®, Wegovy®, Mounjaro® and Zepbound® have become increasingly common—but you may not realize they can also have oral side effects.
Some patients may experience:
🦷 Dry mouth — Less saliva can increase the risk of cavities, bad breath and gum problems.
🔥 Acid reflux — Stomach acid can weaken and erode tooth enamel over time.
🤢 Nausea & vomiting — Frequent exposure to stomach acid can also damage enamel. If you vomit, rinse with water and wait about 30 minutes before brushing.
💧 Dehydration — Eating and drinking less can sometimes mean less fluid intake, which may make dry mouth worse.
The good news? A few simple changes can help protect your smile. Stay well hydrated, use fluoride toothpaste, keep up with brushing and flossing, and don’t skip your regular dental visits.
If you’re taking a GLP-1, make sure your dentist knows. We can watch for changes and help you protect your teeth and gums along the way.
