Take a close look at this beautiful smile. šŸ˜ Can you tell which front tooth is actually an implant and crown?

This patient came to us after having orthodontic treatment at another office. She was missing one of her upper central incisors, and although her teeth had previously been straightened, the roots werenā€™t positioned correctly to allow for a dental implant.

Thatā€™s where proper diagnosis, treatment planning, and teamwork make all the difference!

Dr. Peterson identified:
ā€¢ Missing upper central incisor
ā€¢ Improper root positioning for an implant
ā€¢ Moderate upper and lower crowding
ā€¢ Protrusive front teeth
ā€¢ Excessive overjet

One of the biggest challenges in orthodontics isnā€™t just getting the crowns of the teeth straightā€”itā€™s making sure the roots are in the proper positions too!

šŸ› ļø Treatment included:
ā€¢ Pitts21 self-ligating braces
ā€¢ Strategic bracket positioning
ā€¢ Careful root alignment to create implant space
ā€¢ Smile and bite refinement
ā€¢ Collaboration with the implant and restorative dental team

Through orthodontic treatment, we were able to create the proper space between the roots for implant placement while improving her overall smile esthetics.

Once the orthodontics was complete, our interdisciplinary dental team was able to place a dental implant and restore it with a beautiful custom crown.

Spacing may look like a simple orthodontic problemā€¦ just close the gaps, right? There can actually be a lot more to it!

This patient came to us with:
ā€¢ Significant spacing on the upper and lower
ā€¢ Protrusive upper and lower front teeth
ā€¢ Deep bite
ā€¢ Tooth-size discrepancy, with smaller upper lateral incisors

The goal wasnā€™t simply to close all the spaces. Dr. Peterson also needed to carefully control the position and torque of the front teeth while coordinating the upper and lower arches to create a balanced smile and bite.

šŸ› ļø Treatment included:
ā€¢ Damon Ultima self-ligating braces
ā€¢ Power chains to close the spaces
ā€¢ Careful control of incisor torque and position
ā€¢ Elastics to fine-tune the bite
ā€¢ Strategic lower IPR to compensate for the smaller upper lateral incisors

šŸ’« The result:
All that spacing is gone, the front teeth are beautifully positioned, and the proportions of the upper and lower teeth work together to create a balanced, esthetic .

But with spacing cases, finishing the treatment isnā€™t the end of the story!

Spacesā€”especially a large gap between the upper front teethā€”love to reopen. Thatā€™s why Dr. Peterson likes to double up on retention in these cases. A bonded retainer is placed behind the upper front teeth, along with a clear retainer worn over the top at night.

Sometimes a bite problem isnā€™t the same on both sidesā€”and that can make treatment a little more challenging.

This patient came to us with an asymmetric Class II bite, with the right side significantly further off than the left. That asymmetry was also reflected in her dental midlines.

Dr. Peterson also diagnosed:
ā€¢ Moderate upper and lower crowding
ā€¢ Protrusive upper front teeth
ā€¢ Deep bite
ā€¢ Excessive overjet
ā€¢ Asymmetric Class II bite
ā€¢ Midline discrepancy

Because we needed to improve the bite relationshipā€”not simply straighten the teethā€”Dr. Peterson started treatment with a Herbst appliance to help correct the Class II relationship.

After the Herbst phase, we transitioned into braces and used specific mechanics to refine the asymmetry, coordinate the arches, and finish the bite.

šŸ› ļø Treatment included:
ā€¢ Herbst appliance
ā€¢ Pitts21 Pro self-ligating braces
ā€¢ Broad arch wires
ā€¢ Elastics to fine-tune the bite and asymmetry
ā€¢ Enamel contouring for the finishing touches
