Porphyromonas Gingivalis bacteria is the most common cause of gum/periodontal disease and a recent study suggests that plaques of beta-amyloid protein, a major hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease, may be produced as a response to this infection.
A study conducted by the NIA suggests that older adults with gum disease may be more likely to develop dementia.
