Yikes!! This is how people used to treat baby teething pain.

Mrs Winslow’s Soothing Syrup was first bottled in Bangor, Maine, USA in 1849 and contained a healthy dose of morphine. It was often used to treat teething babies. The following ad appeared a few years later in 1885.

Can brushing and flossing remove tartar/calculus?

The answer is “No”. Tartar and calculus are mineral deposit that attaches itself to your teeth above and below gum-line. Those minerals come from saliva which are secreted by salivary glands (located under tongue). That’s why tartar are heaviest on lower front teeth.

Unfortunately, tartar/calculus must be professionally remove by your dentist or hygienist. Another important thing is to control the return of tartar/calculus by visiting your dentist / hygienist every 3 months.

S***m Whales (the largest toothed predators on earth) do not have teeth in their upper jaw. The lower jaw teeth fit into sockets along the upper jaw.
