Orthodontics, orthodontia, or orthodonture (from Greek orthos "straight or proper"; and odous "tooth") is the first specialty of dentistry that is concerned with the study and treatment of malocclusions (improper bites), which may be a result of tooth irregularity, disproportionate jaw relationships, or both. Orthodon

tic treatment can focus on dental displacement only, or can deal with the control and modification of facial growth. In the latter case it is better defined as "dentofacial orthopaedics". Orthodontic treatment can be carried out for purely aesthetic reasons with regards to improving the general appearance of patients' teeth. However, there are orthodontists who work on reconstructing the entire face rather than focusing exclusively on teeth.

Come out to Part 1 of our Introduction to Ortho Instrumentation workshop series to learn common orthodontic procedures and the instruments used for each of them! We will also be going over some other important information that will prepare you to successfully assist in Ortho Clinic. Anyone is welcome to attend and we highly recommend anyone who is thinking about taking the Ortho Assisting Elective to come!

Note: You MUST attend Part 1 to come to Part 2 (in-person hands-on session in Ortho Clinic to be held early spring quarter)!
