Astro is our office dog, and he comes up in patient reviews almost as often as any staff member does. Patients tell us a friendly face at the front desk, four-legged or otherwise, makes the whole appointment feel less clinical, and that matters most on a first visit when nerves are highest.

We treat plenty of adults who assumed braces were a kid thing. A number of our patients started treatment after putting it off for years, sometimes decades, and the outcome was not any less complete for the wait.

Patients earn tokens at every appointment here, redeemable for prizes at our Token Store in the waiting room. It is a small thing, but it turns a routine appointment into something to look forward to, which matters when a patient is wearing braces for a year or two. Parents tell us it is one of the small details that makes the whole process easier on everyone.

Age seven is the number orthodontists talk about a lot, and here is why. By then, a mix of baby and adult teeth lets us spot bite and jaw growth patterns early, even when braces are not needed for years. An early consultation does not mean early treatment. Most kids we see at seven just leave with a plan and a timeline, and we check back in down the road when the timing is actually right.

October is National Orthodontic Health Month. The American Association of Orthodontists set this month aside, and Dr. Lotzof has been a member for years as a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. All month we are answering the questions patients and parents ask us most, starting with when to bring a child in for a first evaluation and what adult treatment actually looks like.
